      Yes. They are both illuminated. I can see and access my nas box fine which is connected to the router. I can't see wireless laptops connected to the router or ping them either

      But you can't access your router's status page? It should be at http://192.168.0.1/ if you haven't altered the default setting. This i/p address should also be your default gateway.

      That's correct. Its although there are some protocols that are not being allowed or being blocked by the router

      Can you ping your NAS and your router from your PC via the TPlink?

      Interestingly, no. So thats all devices on the network (Router, Wireless laptop and wired NAS) i cannot ping through the TP link.

      Are you able to connect a PC to one home plug and your laptop directly to the other to take your router out of the network and disable firewalls on both devices? Without a DHCP server you will have to set IP addresses manually then check whether you can ping one device from the other and vice versa. If pings still do not work but other protocols such as file sharing do then the TPlink is blocking ICMP traffic and I would contact TPlink for advice.
