      Nice!

Thanks dragon2611. That's pretty damming for Sky.

I still haven't managed to get my Wii routed via VPN to my office's BT internet connection, so I won't bother now.

I'll contact Sky Support on Monday, as I assume I will stand a better chance of speaking with a suitably experienced and motivated techie.

      Thanks again. Best wishes.
      Alan

The weekend staff are often very good and very keen. Give them a try.

The only other thing to try would be a 3rd party router, but otherwise it looks like something weird going on.

Re: Unable to stream YouTube videos on Wii via Sky Fibre Pro

Thanks guys. I just tried a LinkSys router. Exact same problem.

Someone else already reported here that it doesn't work on Sky ADSL too - so it seems pretty certainly a Sky infrastructure issue rather than a modem issue.

I'm gonna have to leave reporting this to Sky Support until the new year, as my cancer is really playing me up at moment and I cannot get my head clear enough to hold an intelligent conversation.

      Best wishes,
      Alan

Try using Hotspot Shield, this bypasses some blocks that Sky put on so it might work with this-

Re: Unable to stream YouTube videos on Wii via Sky Fibre Pro

Happy New Year to you all.

I wonder if any further light can be shed on this problem, now?

The problem still exists. Approximately 99% of time, videos will not play when the YouTube app on my Wii (not Wii U) is connected via a Sky internet connection.

I tried on various occasions over the Christmas period and, surprisingly, on one day (can't remember which), videos would play on approx 50% of attempts, albeit the video would invariably stop playing after a while. Most days, though, it works on roughly only 1% of attempts. My guess, therefore, is that this is a "timing" or "number of hops" related issue within Sky's central infrastructure..

I have had to use my smartphone's WiFi hotspot to play YouTube videos on my Wii over the Christmas period, but it has been unreliable (our local mobile network mast dropped the connection frequently). My personal usage of the internet is such that I wish to use my connection mainly for viewing YouTube content, and I wish to view it on my TV screen - which I can currently do only via the YouTube app on my Wii.

If there are no new ideas here on this forum then I shall shortly contact Sky Support. If they are not able to resolve the problem quickly then I shall cite service is not fit for my purpose and terminate contract and switch to BT Infinity. I don't want to switch to BT because they control bandwidth at busy times. But this would probably be better than not being able to make use of my Sky internet connection in the manner I desire.

      Kind regards to all.
      Alan

      Hi Isitme.

Thank you for your thoughts. However, I don't see how this would work in my case?

My problem is that when I connect my Wii via my Sky internet connection, YouTube videos will not play. Where would the hotspot shield sit, and what would be its purpose?

Videos play perfectly when I connect the Wii via my mobile phone's hotspot.

      Kind regards,
      Alan

Re: Unable to stream YouTube videos on Wii via Sky Fibre Pro

Apologies for not updating this thread I've been kind of busy with something else.

I've had a message a couple of days ago which essentially confirms that after some investigation, Sky's Network specialists can't find an issue at their end.

They are suggesting that the issue is either with the Wii application or with YouTube.

Hotspot shield disguises the fact that you are using Sky broadband. If the Sky connection is the problem then that should solve it.

That's all very well and good but given the Wii doesn't support VPN's and since they probably don't use a standard protocol it won't be possible to configure a VPN router to support it either actually getting the Wii to connect via hotspot shield might prove a somewhat tricky endevour.

I suppose it might be possible to do it using Connection sharing to a PC but it seems a lot of hassle to watch a youtube video on a Wii console.
