Just tried the youtube app on my Wii..

This video is not available .. next video in 5..4..3..2..1... this video is not available .. next video in 5...4...3..2..1. etc etc!

I'm on Sky BB unlimited (until next Thursday when i'm gonna be all fibre-ed up!). So it's not just on sky fibre the problem!?
Netflix app on the Wii works fine btw.

Also, the youtube app on the Xbox 360 works fine as well...

Re: Unable to stream YouTube videos on Wii via Sky Fibre Pro

Thanks Zipperface, that's HUGELY helpful information.

It looks almost certainly like a problem with Sky's central switches/routers.

I haven't yet been able to try connecting my Wii YouTube app using BT Broadband service (via my business VPN). I cannot get my Windows laptop to route between its wired VPN client and its WiFi interface. It seems the Windows network stack specifically disables the "Sharing" tab on the properties pop-up of VPN connections.

I really wish to conduct that experiment because, obviously, most internet services are transported via BT infrastructure, and it could be a BT systems issue.

Does anyone with the older Wii have a non-Sky internet connection (ideally BT), able to install the YouTube "channel" (app, install via the Shop Channel), to see whether it will play videos. We need to eliminate BT's equipment from the equation.

      Regards,
      Alan

It works fine on the iPad too, it looks like the Wii might be the odd man out.

I can't see Sky bothering too much about it to be honest.

Re: Unable to stream YouTube videos on Wii via Sky Fibre Pro

      Hi Isitme.

Yes, I agree - Sky probably won't be bothered about it.

For sure: it's an incompatibility between the YouTube Wii app and Sky's broadband infrastructure.

For this you could blame either YouTube or Sky. But, when you then take into consideration that the YouTube Wii app works perfectly if I switch it to use the WiFi signal from another of my internet service providers, the only common point of blame is... Sky infrastructure.

Oh well. I suppose I'd better call Sky Support soon.

Please... if anyone has BT internet connection and a Wii, let me know whether or not the YouTube app plays videos.

Thanks all. I'll let you know how I get on.

      Regards,
      Alan

This is all way out of my league tbh, but on the wii, do you have any std browser functions after the app has been launched?

On ps3, some apps such as itvplayer & 4od are essentially just bookmarks for the site specifically written for the console.
Currently, the 4od app on ps3 is (a bit) broken, so the workaround is to launch the app, add address to bookmarks, exit app, launch browser & finally go to created bookmark.

Possibly or something between Sky and Youtube, Can't really see skys core routers choking on it unless it's some obscure software bug.

More likely to be CDN related or a bug in the sky provided CPE.

No, the YouTube Wii app is totally self-contained. There is no scope to modify URL's.

      Kind regards,
      Alan

I erroneously said earlier that YouTube would work via the Wii built-in Opera web browser. Today, videos will no longer play via the browser either.

I really need to find a Wii owner with a BT internet connection to try this out (must be the YouTube app, not YouTube via web browser). This would be very revealing.

Anyone? (Unlikely, I suppose, since this is a Sky forum!)

I hope to be visiting the friend who I lent the Wii to over the weekend, who happens to have BT infinity so if I get a chance i'll try the youtube app on it.

That would provide tremendously helpful information. I'll hold off from calling Sky Support until I know how BT internet confections behave with the YouTube Wii app.

      Best regards,
      Alan

Just tested it on my friends connection seemed to work ok.

BT infinity, Belkin router running tomato firmware.
