Fibre and Moving House with No Fibre

      Hi there,

I have been with Sky for over 3 years and renewed my contract in August for a year with Fibre Unlimited Pro. Since then I have found that we are looking to move and will be probably doing so by the beginning of next year, the area we are looking at does not have Fibre available. Does anyone know if I can cancel the contract by moving? or is it more likely I have to stay with Sky for when I move?

On another note I am looking for the time being of downgrading to Fibre Unlimited instead of Pro Unlimited, is this something that must be done over the phone to Sky?

Any info on this would be useful.

In both cases you are best advised to contact Sky.

You should be able to cancel without penalty when you move. as for downgrading, I would hope that this is possible, but it is a relatively new product an I couldn't confirm if there would be any 30 day requirement or penalty.

If the new area have Sky's LLU kit, they may wish to encourage you to take out Sky Broadband Unlimited.

You will have to call up and downgrade to Fibre Unlimited. You can't do this on line.

As for the rest, when you have downgraded, call Sky and tell them you want to move all of your services to another address. They will eventuallly find out they cannot supply fibre and will probably offer you ADSL as a replacement. Under the circumstances I doubt if they will enforce the fibre contract conditions.

This will be an interesting one as I believe FTTC contracts are 12 months from Openreach's end, certainly it used to be the case for BTW based connections not sure about GEA.

Which means Sky would presumably be charged some kind of Early termination fee from BT, not sure if they'll pass that on or absorb it though.
