Which router? 2504n + AEBS or replace the 2504n?

I've had Sky Fibre for a few days now and I've currently got the 2504n connected to my old DGN3500. I want to either use an Airport Extreme with the 2504n or just get one new router to replace the current pairing. I will keep the 2504n if that's the best option, but so far I have grown to dislike it due to it's known issues with wired and wireless devices not being able to see each other (I'm currently working on getting Sky to send me an SR101 due to this). Also it's general user unfriendliness when trying to use it for anything other than basic modem duties is pretty annoying.

I also don't get the connection speed I would expect, the router reports a sync rate of 40000kbps and BT suggests my line is good for 53mbps. My speedtest results are below:

I have the following devices on my network:

      Wired:

      Windows 7 PC
      ReadyNAS
      Popbox media player
      Squeezebox music player
      Freesat STB
      Blu ray player

      Wireless:

      MacBook
      iPad 3
      iPhone 4
      Nokia N8
      Musicpal music player (x2)

My main concern is getting the best wireless connection for my MacBook to the network, I've only ever been able to connect to the DGN3500 at 144mbps hence why I'm considering the AEBS.

I'd really appreciate some advice especially from anyone with experience of similar devices. I'm torn between the AEBS to get the best connection to my Apple devices and something like the Billion 8200n which will allow me to dump the Sky Router.

I do wonder if it's possible to get the AEBS to connect to sky fibre, some people who've tried it seem to suggest it's not, but I'm sure I saw an option to specify the DHCP client ID in the older version of the airport utility, if it is then I suspect it's just a case of getting the formatting/syntax correct

Speed looks about right for SFU if the sync is 40Mbit/s throughput will be around 36Mbit/s

I have an Airport Express I could try it with if you have any pointers.

36Mbit/s is what I'd expect hence why I thought it was a little low at 32Mbit/s, I think I may have seen better speeds when first installed and only the MacBook was connected directly to the 2504n and not the current setup.

DHCP client ID is available on older versions of APU, I can't install it on my MacBook as it's not compatible with Mountain Lion. I'm going to try and find it for windows and try that.

APU 5.6.1 for windows has options for DHCP client ID. I'm not sure what to do with that though!

      It works!

I'm typing this whilst connected to the internet through the Airport Express connected directly to the BTO modem.

EDIT: My speediest.net result is now improved too!

      Scots,

APU 5.6 for Lion will run on Mountain Lion, i know this as I already had it installed on my macbook before I upgraded to ML on release.

After a bit of googling i came across this Mountain Lion and Airport Configuration Utility – NetUse traffic monitor. you can follow the instructions or simply grab the already extracted utility
