Sky Fibre Being Installed Tomorrow (Questions)

Having Sky Fibre Unlimited installed tomorrow, can't wait. Have been estimated the full 40Mb so looks like I'm going to get a good increase from my Sky BB unlimited connection.

      A couple of questions though

      1) How long it should take. There is nothing that needs moving socket wise and the modem can go right next to the socket.

      2) Does the engineer install the router or just the modem. I would prefer doing the router myself so I can set it up/position it where I want it. I won't be in at the time of the install, my wife will be dealing with it.

      Thanks in advance.

Had mine done last week. Engineer installed the BT Openreach modem and connected it to the Sky router - it was still in it packaging. Not usre if he tested it (well I know he couldn't have). I wasn't there for the install but I had already configured the Sky router including changing the ip address and default password.

Think he was here about 15-20 mins max.

Enjoy the speed. I am!!! 2.7mbs to 40mbs

Re: Sky Fibre Being Installed Tomorrow (Questions)

Looking at you profile, you already have sky Broadband.

I suggested it to someone else yesterday, and I will make the same suggestion now: Set up your new router now, if you haven't already.

Use the existing ADSL cable and plug in the Ethernet cable that will be used to connect the Sky router to the BTO Modem.

When the BTO Engineer arrives, it will be a very simple case to just unplug the ADSL cable and connect the Ethernet cable to the BTO Modem.

Well the install went fine. Syncing at 39992 kbps/9996 kbps. Speed tests are about 25Mb wireless and 32Mb wired, so maybe not as fast as it should be? Will leave it to settle for a few days and see if anything improves.

Re: Sky Fibre Being Installed Tomorrow (Questions)

Those figure appear to be alright. There was an issue with some members previously with 'half speed' problems. This has been resolved I believe.

The main figures to consider are those reported by the router (39992 d/l & 9996 u/l).

Some have found that their HomePlugs have affected the connection throughout a little, even when their computer was connected directly to the Sky router. WiFi, by its nature, will not be able to give you the best speed test result. Also some computers will struggle to get the best of the speed test results.

Please do feel free to use the speed tester available on this forum. It isn't hammered as much as the speedtest.net site.

Thanks Scubbie. I'll give the speed test here a try later. I'm pretty pleased with everything. Also good that the upload is 10Mb from day 1. I know that some people have been connected at 2Mb at first.

There is a fairly decent speed test tool here (but note that it requires Java 7 and a 64-bit browser):

      MySpeed Application Speed Test
++ speedyrite ... powered by NOW Broadband from June 2018 ++
(previously powered by Sky Broadband from July 2007)
