This is superb, I'm getting close to 30 over wifi and nearly 9 upload, stick the Ethernet cable up it and its the full monty! Engineer was sound he did question what I had been quoted and said reason he asked was he thought Sky only did 2 upload but I was showing 10 but was fine.

      Re: Countdown to Fibre-Day

One very happy Sky Fibre customer
Ping speed 10 times faster at 10ms
Download 26 times faster at 36mbps (seen between 34 and 38)
Upload 16 times faster at 9.1mbps
      All above is over WiFi
      BBC iPlayer is now usable
WiFi range is incredible; not dropping below 34mbps throughout the house. I even get 7.5mbps at the end of our 150ft garden.
      Yep, happy with that.

      Re: Countdown to Fibre-Day

Thanks to everyone for the advise. I bought new Cat5e cables from RJ45 Cat5e Cat6e Gigabit Network Ethernet Lan Cable 10M 15M 20M 25M 30M 40M 50M | eBay to replace those that were too long.
The BTO engineer was a top lad. Ended up fitting new faceplate to my phone socket and ran a concealed data cable all the way to my lounge including drilling hole in wall etc. Even left me a few meters for future use if I need to relocate my router/modem.

I'm only using Wifi for main PC and laptop, its plenty fast enough and only a mbps or so slower than via cable, when I decorate next I'll be laying cat5.

      Re: Countdown to Fibre-Day

      Nice result.

I would avoid Cat 5 though. It can only cope with speeds up to 100mb. Cat 5e would be far better for the future since with FTTP-on-demand not far away, you can easily get in excess of 300mb/s.

Don't go for the very cheap Cat 5e cable as it isn't correct. Proper Cat 5e cable can support a 1Gbit LAN.

All the cable distances are up to 100m, provided that there are no sharp bends in the cable.

      Yep, well chuffed.

Sorry, all cables are Cat5e (didn't know the e was that important :-))
FTTP wont be arriving here anytime shortly surely?

      Re: Countdown to Fibre-Day

BTO are supposed to be launching FTTP On Demand next summer, or perhaps sooner.

It will be expensive to install, but will be available in areas which have got FTTC available.

The reason for the expense is that it will take several man hours for BTO to run the Fibre connection all the way from the cabinet to your property and they will need to install a different BTO Modem.

Sky are trailing FTTP, but their current routers don't support anything faster than a 100mb LAN or 144mb WiFi. Since FTTP in the UK is now faster than 100mb (110, 220 & 330), I guess there will be a follow up to the Sky Hub SR101.

      Re: Countdown to Fibre-Day

Ah, I see. Crikey, it'll cost a fortune to run cable from cabinet to house. I suppose some may want to pay.
