Which cable to connect to master socket?

We're having a move around of the room and the wife wants the Openreach modem moved from where it is. I'm looking at a connecting cable from the master socket to the Openreach modem of about 3 -4 metres and I know they are RJ11 connectors on either end, but what cable type is it, ie crossover or straight and how many pairs are connected?

Just get a normal RJ11 lead but longer, crossover etc is for network cables.

Longer cables can affect the performance of the connection if they are made from the wrong cable.

I would avoid a stand flat ADSL cable if I were you.

BTO uses Cat 5e cable and RJ11 plugs to make longer ADSL cables when required. Alternatively you could purchase something like in the link below:

Belkin 10m RJ11 Male to Male Hi-Speed Internet Modem: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

I don't know how it performs on vDSL but I know someone who uses one on her ADSL connection without any loss of performance. There are different lengths available.

      PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.
