      VDSL2 Install and such

My friend who i game with has just swapped over from virgin to sky vdsl2
mainly due to us being sick of him pulling host 100% of the time with virgin
and the poor jitter / latency etc..

I was present for the install yesterday and was talking with the bt engineer

Firsty the bad news for me my exchange although not live
is listed as a future exchange and the engineer was kind enough
to check where my cab is on the bt database

Im direct from the exchange .. no vdsl2 for me!!

Anyway my friend on the exchange after mine and is live

Stats from the the engineers tool that i can remember

22.8 noise margin at 40001 sync
29.5 noise margin at 1997 sync

      10 db downstream attenuation

      Trellis on
      Interleaving On
      IMP 0 Down
      IMP 0 UP
      Delays 1.0 ms Down
      Didnt Notice Upstream Delays

      Trace From me to him

      1 rapture.shonk.org (192.168.0.1) 0.239 ms 0.234 ms 0.220 ms
      2 cr1.swcuv.uk.easynet.net (87.87.224.95) 7.487 ms 7.382 ms 7.151 ms
      3 87.87.129.129 (87.87.129.129) 4.634 ms 4.526 ms 4.375 ms (MY EXCHANGE CORE)
      4 ip-84-38-37-13.easynet.co.uk (84.38.37.13) 9.977 ms 9.586 ms 9.856 ms (HIS EXCHANGE CORE)
      5 5e0c146f.bb.sky.com (94.12.20.111) 19.544 ms 19.202 ms 19.551 ms

My dslam replys to pings on a low priority 7ms or so
but the next hop replys in 4ms so its clearly 4ms or less ms to my dslam

The bt dslam doesnt respond in a traceroute and gets a timeout in a trace on his pc
and isnt shown at all in a trace from my pc
I presume due to sky not wanting a bt ip showing in a trace so it makes it harder to see the
jump from the latency from the modem to the dslam but at the moment its around 10ms
where as mine is 4ms or less

Firstly im quite supprised from hop 3 my exchange
to hop 4 his exchange is a 5ms jump being less than 5miles away from each other i would have presumed
they would have had direct peering to each other
but it looks like they have some sort peering hub system
so i might have to bounce to say bristol if thats the neerest hub etc..

if an when dlm sets fast path in a few days it should drop the latency by around 6ms i presume

in peoples experience how long has it taken for 10meg upstream to be set

Shame about your own situation. I guess that it was predictable with such a good set of stats though.

BTO are working on a solution for the many who are in the same situation. Sadly it will mean that you'll have to have something like FTTP installed when it is possible, with no option for FTTC.

Tbh i would far prefer fttp there will be no latency penalty into the exchange
I just hope they get on with rolling it out to people on a direct echange link

10meg upstream has been set some time between 5pm last night and now
so around 36 hours it took to be bumped up

      The usage profiles look a bit silly. 3GB - 65GB available on a 160MB connection. I hopes it's a mistake.

3-65GB is absolutely laughable on a product of this speed, you could grab 3GB in less than 3 mins.

In fact its still laughable on 40/10 connection.
