Having to disconnect for a few days

      Hi Guys,

I've had Fibre since April and in that time have had a few power shortages. I've tried to keep the router and BTO modem on at all times. This week we are having the electricity re-wired in our house as this explains the shortages we've been having recently. We've been told that electricity will be switched off for a full day while this is done and that we'd need to disconnect everything from the plug sockets.

I just wondered how this would affect the Fibre connection, is it best to let Sky know that this will happen so they don't think its a connection issue? I remember on ADSL when we used to turn the router off to go on holiday, we'd come back and find the speed had reduced. Is this the same as Fibre? Have been syncing at 39999 since Day 1 and had upload increased to 10 meg in the summer. Wouldn't want to jump to anything lower then that if im being honest!

shouldn't matter as DLM only reduces if it thinks there's a problem with frequent disconnections. I assume this will be the first so should be OK.

Should Be fine, infact being off for a long period of time is probably much better than it going up and down like a yoyo because people keep powering it on and off.

The DLM is fairly sophisticated and the people who designed it are well aware that some people have a tendency to turn their routers off at night or when they go on holiday so it shouldn't effect it.

Having to disconnect for a few days

Have now had to turn off electricity in the whole house on 2 occasions over the past 2 days, I'm actually writing this on my iPhone as its off right now.

I'm now expecting the connection speed to reduce - as I can't say how many more times the electricity will need to go off while work to the house is being done. Is DLM on Sky sophisticated enough to put the speed back up to what it should be once it realises there isn't a line fault or does it just stick with whatever speed it connects at?

your best bet is to unplug the modem and leave it till the work is complete that way DLM wont think that its disconnecting frequently, that is of course if you are able to do this

Having to disconnect for a few days

It's an option yes although I work from home and my 3G tethering doesn't always work so it's not very ideal.

I don't really mind if connection sync reduces due to the DLM as long as it eventually corrects itself. It would bother me if the speed went down and locked at the lower sync permanently.

Re: Having to disconnect for a few days

From what I've seen on friends FTTC connections that the DLM has reduced the speed of due to a fault is it often sorts itself out within a week or so once the problem was resolved.
