You will get a new one, the old routers only supported adsl or fibre, not both! :-)

      Re: New Sky Router

its for both, but when its used for a fibre connection you lose of one the ethernet ports as the router doesn't have a dedicated WAN port

Currently Sky's order systems automatically require that a router is included when you order either an ADSL or Fibre product.

They have been charging for postage with new Sky customers for some time now, but since they insist on you using there router in order to connect to the Internet, I guess that they would be in deep trouble if they wanted to charge you for the router as well.

I know that some other ISPs offer you their router for a fee, but they also allow you to use your own router.

What may happen in time is that Sky may modify their systems to see whether or not you already have the Sky Hub SR101. Since the one being shipped to ADSL customers is also suitable to connect via Sky Fibre, a replacement router would not be needed. Currently this isn't possible with the Sagem 2504N as the one shipped to ADSL customers tends to have a firmware which locks out the Fibre function.

That will save them a bob or two. Maybe if you already have a Hub they will give you 3 months fibre foc.

Thanks Scubbie, that was very informative.
I guess we will find out within the next week or so.

      Re: New Sky Router

I'm thinking of buying the new hub, been having a look at it on the sky site and looks a bit tasty, I was also thinking it's not a bad idea to have a back up router in case of any problems. Will be asking the wife to add it to my Christmas list

      Re: New Sky Router

It's October 18th and the new router has finally arrived. Now there's no reason to delay changing to fibre. Is there? I need to take some further steps first.
      1. Look at Groupon and Topcashback and see what's on offer.
      2. Ring Sky and bluff them into thinking I'll cancel unless they waive the 50 installation charge or offer me a deal.
      3. Once I'm committed, decide how to justify to the wife why I'm spending more money on a system which is perfectly adequate as it is. Or should I pretend (lie) that it's a free upgrade?
It's only an extra cost of a measly 3 a week. Or 6 a week for the Pro. And I don't smoke.

      Re: New Sky Router

I've tried to order a new Hub online but can't find a way to do so. A Live Chat with Sky solicited the following:

Raja: To order a new router you need to call on 08442 41 41 41, call free from Sky talk. It's not possible for an existing user to order on-line at this time.
