Existing Customer fibre upgrade 50 Activation charge

      Hey All,

I currently have Sky unlimited Broadband, Fibre is available in my Exchange. However I am reluctant to pay the 50 activation fee. I noticed both BT and Plusnet offer fibre without the activation charge.

Has any existing customers managed to upgrade to fibre without paying the 50 activation charge?

Some people who registered an interest for Sky Fibre have been able to get it waived, but sadly not everyone.

The best thing is to call and ask.

Re: Existing Customer fibre upgrade 50 Activation charge

When I ordered last week, I moaned about the 50 activation fee claiming that it their initial offer of free activation was discriminating against current sky customers that wanted the service at the time but were unable to get it because their exchanges weren't enabled and therefore were disadvantaged and not able to take up the initial offer.
They agreed to credit my account with 50 after I had paid the activation fee

I reluctantly paid the 50. A relatively small price to pay to increase my speed from 1 Mb/s to 38 Mb/s.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I called up and mentioned that I wanted to upgrade. I did actually register my interest with sky way back in the day.
Unfortunately they said they had no way of refunding the 50.

Then said "Do I really need fibre?"

I thanked him for his time and said I'll think about it.

If I decide to order I'll let you know

      What a terrible response.

Obviously someone who doesn't know how to sell. I might have responded "Not nearly as much as you need a job".

I had a similar response. I've called a few times and have always been asked why I want fibre. They have obviously haven't been told to push it. Perhaps a marketing campaign will launch later.

Re: Existing Customer fibre upgrade 50 Activation charge

From reading some other threads, it seems I may have had better luck going through to cancellations, rather than the fibre team.

What are peoples of thoughts on this? I have called sky maybe three times about fibre and activation already, so I am sure they will see the previous notes on the call.

Existing Customer fibre upgrade 50 Activation charge

I just called the regular line relating to broadband, asked about upgrading to fibre. Said that I just wanted to check that the fibre activation fee is still applicable. They said it was and I told them that BT would give it to me for free. They immediately changed tack and said if I paid the fee with a card, they would then refund it back. Definitely worth persevering.
My install date is next Tuesday 16th., and router is due to arrive today.
I'll report back and let folks know which router they've sent me ;-)
