My config has been up for a week I have 2.4 and 5GHz wireless working and hardline looks OK, stable no disconnects. Took a bit of finessing though
      Hi DedPixl,

I'm looking to use the same Netgear R7800 router to replace my Sky SR101
I see on a previous thread you had had issues with the dd-wrt start up string you were using. However, since you now appear to be using kongat dd-wrt firmware v3.0-r30870M (11/10/16) firmware
could you please reveal the settings & finessing you used to obtain a stable connection?

      Many thanks in advance.

      Rob

      Hi RobRS

I have attached a .pdf file of what worked for me in setting up the R7800. The content is built on the work of others and some useful pointers from people like MarJohn on the forums. I think what the attached .pdf does if anything is to fill in the little bits of knowledge which people assume you know so hope its useful. I am by no means an expert in this area and like it says in the disclaimer at the top using the information is entirely at your own risk but that being said if you stick to the instructions I dont think you can do too much damage .. famous last words

good luck let me know how you get on. Oh and if anybody else on the forums wants to constructively comment on the content or suggest improvements I am happy to hear from them

Good doc, but you no longer need to extract username and password, kippers4tea@skydsl.com|pingpong1234 will work fine, you just need to have something in the string. You'll still need to convert that string to hex though.

Thanks MarJohn, I will leave it a month or so and see what feedback I get then incorporate it all into a final version. Erm wait a minute are you saying you can put any old rubbish into user part of domain name and password! If that is what you are saying it certainly makes things easier but totally destroys any argument Sky has for not simply telling you the username and password they assign to you lol

      Hi DedPixl,

Many thanks for the quick response & detailed setup instructions. Hopefully the setup will go without to much issue!
I will let you know how it goes......

My main reason for wanting to change to a 3rd party router apart from the obvious benefits is Sky's restriction on DDNS settings on the SR101
My CCTV manufacture HIKvision supply users of there NVRs wanting to use remote viewing & NVR control using a free DDNS. But due to Sky's limitations it is costing me ~62 per year for a domain name & DDNS through DynDNS. At least with the R7800 with DD-WRT I'll be le to configure a custom DDNS & use HIKvision DDNS

That's exactly what I am saying, not sure it applies to ADSL, but certainly fibre. Det will confirm if he reads this.

Trying to remember now. I believe that the Option 61 details no longer matter for FTTC/IPoE lines, as long as *something* is present.
However I think LLU/PPPoA lines still require a valid Sky Hub CPE MAC address in the username field, in the format of "mac@skydsl|". As long as the pipe symbol is there, I don't think anything subsequent is required.

Oh and MAC address with the colons removed.

You'll need to flash it with WRT, Kong Mod supports the 8500. https://www.myopenrouter.com/downloads/dd-wrt-r8500

The just follow the instructions, of which there are many on this site, for getting WRT working with Sky.
