Due to advertising laws modified by Ofcom last Easter, the SFUP product has never been advertised as an 'up to 80mb' product.

When you signed up to SFUP you would have been provided an estimated speed. This would have been based on your distance n what kind of speeds you could expect to receive when the cabinet was fully populated with FTTC connections.

I am hoping that we will not experience the same issues when BTO upgrade the FTTC network to support 200mb speeds and when FTTP is launched.

And, of course, the key word there is "estimated" - as opposed to "guaranteed" which in my opinion is unlikely to ever be used in the context of advertised speeds!

      Re: Sync dropped

When the BT engineer installed my fibre he did say that demand for fibre was "mad" in my area and the engineers were very busy as a result.

My cabinet is quite a small one compared to others I have seen, maybe it needs an extension built?

      Re: Sync dropped

Why are they advertising fibre pro as an 80 / 20 service then?

I appreciate that they then estimate your sync speed.

Do you have to live in the cabinet to guarantee getting the full service?
I am within about 200 yds of the cabinet, the exchange is slightly further, if I can't get the max speed living so close, then in my opinion, so few will that is a con to advertise it as an 80 / 20 mb service.

Roll on fibre direct to the house.

Certainly I would agree with you there. Also I would love the connection speeds to be raised to support 1Gbit d/l as well, with a nice healthy upload speed.

You probably need to have the cabinet in your front garden to get max speed!

thinkbroadband :: Fibre Broadband (FTTC / FTTH) Guide

in think link above is a table with estimated connections speeds based on distance from the cabinet.

@Dog-man - if you have the Huawei 612 Modem and you feel comfortable enough it may be worth 'hacking' it to obtain your current max attainable rate and to see if there are any CRC, FEC or HEC errors on your line.

If you do this and you don't find any errors and that you max attainable is in the low 70's then theres nothing that you can do it increase it back to your previous sync speed.

Even when FTTP/H has been rolled out to the majority of the UK people will still want faster speeds.
