I am not sure why you are all worrying about Sky not advertising Fibre. If Sky are good at anything, they are good at advertising campaigns. They will pick their time and be sure of what they claim when they offer fibre in advertisements. As regards Pro, it is a bit difficult to understand, that although they offer it online alongside the Fibre Unlimited, they only give a phone number to call should you be interested. We don't know, but I suppose it is possible there could be a term in their contract with BT which restricts their advertising rights. It may also be connected with the fact that Sky do not have a big enough 'pipe' out of many exchanges at the moment as it is, without making it worse by pushing fibre.

Is anyone (either who has posted in this thread or not) actually worried about why Sky is not advertising Fibre? I doubt it!

Much of what you said in your reply is probably the substance of the explanation of why Sky is not advertising Fibre.

It just seems, to some of those who know that the product exists, that the usual marketing and advertising might for TV, Talk & (ADSL) Broadband is noticeably absent for Fibre. And so we idly speculate in threads like this...

Sorry, I could not think on an alternative word to use to describe the interest being shown on a subject which only really effects the Sky Advertising department. We all know that you can get Sky fibre through their website, so why are we 'worrying' about people who don't know that. Advertising it will cause a big uptake, so those that have it now may see a decrease in their speed due to loading on their cabinet. For existing users, not advertising it may not be a bad thing.

      Re: hmmm sky fibre...

With my investor hat on (having a few BSkyB shares in my SIPP), I'd like to see Sky use Fibre take on BT Infinity & Virgin Media Broadband and increase their market share by mopping the floor with them, thus increasing revenue and - hopefully - increasing profits some of which can in turn be re-invested into the whole infrastructure of the business (maybe creating more jobs) and some of which can provide a decent return to investors by way of increased dividends and capital growth via a rising share price.

But, as pointed out, there are probably many good reasons why Sky Fibre is not yet being widely advertised or marketed. Doesn't stop people from being curious about the subject though, particularly when being continually presented with lots of fibre broadband advertising by Sky's competitors.

      Re: hmmm sky fibre...

On the positive side of this subject, anyone who visits the Sky website to place an order for Sky has to first see what their potential connection speed is.

When Sky Fibre Unlimited can be supplied the estimated speed for both the ADSL and Fibre products is shown. Admittedly the Fibre figure is limited to 40mb and does not show the upload speed, but it does help people to see what is available.

There are some outstanding issues to be resolved. I believe that the 'half speed' problem is still a cause for concern to many. From what i have seen posted, I also think that many of the people placing the orders for Sky Fibre are making some mistakes (why order 40/2 when the product is now 40/10?) and that the systems are still not correctly communicating with the BTO order systems.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
