Can someone please clarify maximum fibre speeds?

      Sorry, just a quick question.

I seem to be getting conflicting info from Sky and elsewhere regarding Fibre and Fibre Pro. What are the current maximum speeds up and down for each product?

If I log into my account I see this as an estimate.

Does this mean I should pretty much get the maximum on Pro too? (Whatever that is)

Sorry if I'm covering old ground here.

Re: Can someone please clarify maximum fibre speeds?

Current maximum for Pro is 80mbps. If you can get the full 40mbps on Fibre Unlimited, that means you have a good chance of getting the maximum on Pro, but it cannot be guaranteed. You might get less than the full speed.

Re: Can someone please clarify maximum fibre speeds?

Basically the speed estimate that you are seeing is capped. The signal is much the same as if you were on pro.

It used to be that the "up to 40mb" connection would be less, but this was changed and many more now get the full 40mb speed.

As for above the 40mb, it really depends once more on how far you are from the green street cabinet. In practise you could get any speed on pro from 40mb up to 80mb.

The best ways to be sure would be to either call Sky and see how much you would get o SFUP or to visit the BT website and see what speed they estimate you would get on Infinity. Since both BT Retail and Sky use the same modem and infrastructure, the speed should be the same.

      Cheers guys.

And upload speeds on both Sky packages? I'm guessing the standard Fibre is capped but I'm getting different figures from Sky CS. I think I'm just having bad luck getting someone who knows the products.

Re: Can someone please clarify maximum fibre speeds?

@rich1068 : The estimate provided by BT Infinity would be a conservative figure, although it appears that as the cabinet becomes more populated the connection speeds will drop to nearer the estimated figure.

If you were to sign up to SFUP today then you may get between 65-75mb on the downstream. Based upon what others have experienced though, this initial figure does drop a little over the coming months and you could end with nearer 60mb.

Re: Can someone please clarify maximum fibre speeds?

      Thanks again everyone.

According to the last CS agent I spoke to it's only 2MB up regardless of whether it's Fibre or Fibre Pro. Glad I asked here.

      pmsl

I am glad that we have been helpful to you.

I think that some of the people in the call centres really do not read all the product updates that they should read sometimes.

As a matter of course now I always make a note of the person whom I have spoken with on the phone with Sky now. Purely because I have sometimes received a survey through the email and I like to make sure which person it was that I was talking with, especially if the call has gone to a 2nd or 3rd person.

There is a box in the comments section where you could basically say "xxx advised me xxxxx which i later found out was incorrect", for example.

Re: Can someone please clarify maximum fibre speeds?

Well just ordered Fibre Unlimited (not Pro)

I've gone for 04/10 installation. See how we go.

I often feel I'll rot in hell for using Sky/News Corp/all that jazz but I have say their service and product is top notch. Hopefully nothing will happen to alter my view.
