Install of Sky Fibre, successful or a complete failure?

Just to see how the state of play is on Sky Fibre installs.

Most of the time things go right first time, but sometimes, the order fails and no one is informed.

Re: Install of Sky Fibre, successful or a complete failure?

As posted elsewhere, ordered upgrade from sky broadband unlimited to fibre online on 17th August.

Email confirmations received, router received, 2 confirmation letters received, texts received including one the day before install reminding me to be in between 1pm-6pm (on 5th sept), then on the day?....

Nothing. No engineer. Phoned customer services, order was placed with customer services but "not with technical" so no engineer booked.
The worst of it is in order for the order to go through properly, it had to be cancelled and then re-ordered meaning another date needed booking in for an engineer, another 3 weeks away (27th sept). They couldn't even guarantee the 3 months free line rental offer I had when placing the order the first time. To say I was p'd off is an understatement.

Anyway scubbie suggested an email to the exec team, which I did. I had a phone call apology on Friday, but no resolution yet, the main problem being that Sky are at the behest of BT for the fibre install. I thought that understandably to me, I shouldn't have to go to the back of the queue as I hadn't done anything wrong, but I will have to wait and see.

I also wanted to bring their faulty ordering process to light so it might not happen to anyone else.

Likewise documented elsewhere - but I ordered on the first day my cabinet was live for ordering. Only found out order wasn't going through "technical" when no BTO engineer turned up to do the install. Have subsequently ordered BT Infinity so no local cabinet issue. Emailed executive team to let them know their system problem; got another apology. (Hope its fixed in 18months as I might try and migrate if BT put prices up as rumoured).
BT Infinity 2 FTTC (19/09/2012) - Sync: 52 Mbps / 9 Mbps - (Would consider Sky if static IP available).

To avoid the price hike you could pay u front for the line rental and broadband.

Be careful though. I caught a piece on BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning which indicated that one supplier did not transfer the advanced payment to a new address that the person had moved too.

Re: Install of Sky Fibre, successful or a complete failure?

It took me 3 months and at least 5 attempts before my order finally went through. Each time I was sent a router, don't know what to do with them all, suppose could try and sell them on ebay. What I can't understand is why it went through last time but not before as nothing changed. Total mystery to me how Sky's system works. But anyway hopefully it's over now, Fibre was installed on 16 August.

There are various members on this forum who would appreciate one.

When Sky have sent out replacement routers in the past they have asked for the old router to be returned so that they can refurb them. In your case I don't know what they will do. After 6 months though I would not think that they would contact you for them.

Re: Install of Sky Fibre, successful or a complete failure?

I ordered sky fibre pro unlimited on the 3rd September and was promised a PM install on Mon 21st September.

The router delivery was a bit touch and go, only received it via ParcelFarce at 7.30am on Sat 19th Sept. It turned out to be a SR-101.

The BTO engineer arrived promptly, fitted the filter, disappeared to the Cab for 20 minutes or so and then on his return Fibre Pro was up and running nicely in moments.

Install of Sky Fibre, successful or a complete failure?

Got SUFB on trial router never arrived as Sky think it was taken at post office, new router sent out arrived on a Tuesday install was Wednesday. As I had it on trial had a fair few calls from Sky who always rang at exact time I asked (because of security mobiles aren't allowed at work)and were always very helpful.Happy days

Install was this morning. Went very smoothly! I've done a few speed tests and I'm getting a mix of 32-37 down, 8-9.7 up. Typing Dominos into Google shows I'm near Edgware Rd tube station when I'm in Finchley. Hopefully should get relocated later on so will update when the line settles down. Overall, very very happy!
