      Extending Wireless Network

As I have recently just signed up to Sky Fibre and received a new router, I have a spare one that I would like to use as an access point.

I have seen that some people have done this, although I think I must be missing a piece of the puzzle.

Both Routers are the F@st 2504N

I have listed below what I did

Changed SSID Name & passphrase on Secondary router to match Primary
      Gave IP Address within range
      Turned DHCP off

Turned off & plugged ethernet cable from primary to secondary router before powering back on.

When connecting a PC to the secondary router the network was unidentified with no internet connection, is there a few more settings I have missed?

      Thanks

Your trying to configure a repeater here - can the second access point be used for such a thing?

      Gorebush,

rather than a repeater, would it just have to broadcast a unique SSID as there is a guide on another post advising to perform steps 2 & 3 from my original post.

I have just had a thought that the routers may carry different firmware versions though as one was supplied with my Fibre order and the other for my original broadband connection.

      Re: Extending Wireless Network

      Follow the guide here: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/askin...-together.html

However, members have reported that the Sagem 2504N does not keep it's settings unless they are made when it is connected to an active Internet connection. with this in mind, could I suggest that if your 2nd Sagem 2504N is the ADSL version that you take it to a friend's home, connect it to their Internet, configure the router, then take it back home.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      Re: Extending Wireless Network

      Hi Scubbie,

I have read that guide and did what it advised with the addition of changing the SSID & passphrase to match my fibre router. I also set my main router to channel 1 & the secondary to channel 6.

I think it did save the settings as the router was no longer visible when trying to access via 192.168.0.1

How would the router connect to the internet at a friend house if it is pre-configured with my ISP details?

      Re: Extending Wireless Network

I haven't got a Sagem 2504N to practise with, but it may work on any live ADSL connection or otherwise it would have to be a Sky connection.

Following the guide carefully, did you test the 2nd router using a short Ethernet cable to connect it to your computer and another short Ethernet cable to connect it to the primary Sagem 2504N?

Have you also tried typing in the new IP Address 192.168.0.250 in your browser?

      Re: Extending Wireless Network

I've got the second router working as a switch after resetting & repeating the steps in the guide but the only way I could get the wireless to work was using a different SSID. When they were set as the same I could not connect.

      Thanks for your help

      No problem. Strange though.
