      Sky fibre - install question

I am having fibre installed on Friday morning (yay!)
My present setup is PC in small room with master socket fitted with adsl faceplate. Router and phone are plugged in with no extensions and I have an ethernet cable through wall into lounge for xbox. No other sockets in house as 2 other phones work from the main one via electric sockets.
When sky phoned to confirm order they weren't even sure the engineer would need access to the house, but surely he will need to install the modem? Then they mentioned if the engineer did need access he may need to move the master socket to somewhere more convenient? Really don't want it moved.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced having to have the socket moved?

Re: Sky fibre - install question

Have you checked out the Fibre FAQ: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...dband-faq.html

Basically you can have the Master Socket placed were you want. The person at the other end of the telephone can't see where it is located in relation to the incoming telephone line, so how can he/she tell you where the BTO Engineer will install it?

You will need an extra power socket for the BTO Modem. If you are short, then consider the purchase of a Surge Protected extension.

Ideally the BTO Modem should also be wall mounted.

Thanks Scubbie, at present I have a surge protect tower which has 2 spare sockets, so that's not a problem. Glad to hear the socket can stay where it is Thanks for the FAQ link!

      No problem.

I am sure things will change from time to time, but the people who have been helping to put the FAQ together have a range of suitable knowledge and relevant experience so it should be good. It has been updated on several occasions since it was first published too to reflect things such as name and product changes.
