      Sky fibre "up to" speeds

      Hi

I'm currently with Virgin Media and have been very happy with the cable broadband speeds and stablility over the last 2 years. I am about to move into a VirginMedia free area, and will therefore be signing up with Sky.

As I am used to better than the 3-3.5Mbps speeds normal broadband will offer, I have been investigating Sky Fibre.

I am concerned as the Sky availability checker suggests speeds of "40-40Mbps" but when I chatted to an online representitve, they said (when pushed) this was an "up to" speed, not a guaranteed speed.

As 0.01Mbps could be classed as "up to" is there any way of getting clarity on what the speeds will be?

      Cheers

Use a bt checker they are usually on the conservative side

for example it says my adsl2+ speed will be between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps in reality its capable of 22.8

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps

Please take a look at the Fibre FAQ: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...dband-faq.html

Numbers 18 & 19 should answer your question. The minimum connection speed is 15mb, however if your estimated connection speed is 40mb, then that it what you will get. It also mean that you may get more if you opted for SFUP. SFUP is an "up to" 80mb product.
