      Re: even faster?

i agree what the others have said, an extra 10pm for only 7Mb down and no increase on the up is not worth it in my opinion.

As shonk has said as you line is not reaching the full 80/20 profile speeds even if BT/Sky were to enable a 30a profile (potential speeds of 100Mb/s down) then its unlikely that you would benefit from it as this particular profile would be a lot more susceptible to interference due to the frequencies used.

As you are only getting 47/10 from being on 80/20 this would suggest that either (or both) a) your copper line length from your house to the street cab is quite long (in VDSL terms) and b) your line has alot of faults.

if the extra 10 for what you are receiving is acceptable to you then that is fine and obviously your decsision, again just not worth it IMO

With you originally getting 34/35mbps when you first got fibre, I'm surprised you got a increase at all when you upgraded to fibre pro.

Is there a reason why you wasn't achieving 38/39mbps in speed tests when you first had fibre installed ?

With your top fibre pro speed being 45/10, did sky mention it might be in your interest to wait for the 40/10 profile to come out?
Seems a bit unfair, Sky signing you up, just before releasing it.

      Re: even faster?

      ok, thanks.
so if you say they are offering it for free then I should ring and ask them to not charge me the extra 10 or whatever it is huh.

no, sky didnt tell me anything like this at all apart from that it will increase the speed, which I was happy with that. they flicked the switch, waited for DLM etc... to finish and I did get the speed increase.

      Re: even faster?

Make the decision, and then tell Sky if you wish to downgrade back to SFU

      Either pay;

20 for 40/20 (maybe end of July before it is increased from 2 to 10)
      30 for 80/20

      Re: even faster?

so here is the question: how can I find out what is the max speed my line can handle?

Because you're currently on up-to 80/20 and you're getting throughput of 47/10 (according to your speed-test) I'd say that's pretty much what you line can handle give or take a few mbit depending on line conditions at the time of sync.

If I were in your shoes I'd downgrade to 40/10 and not give it a second thought, unless the extra bit of download you have is important to you but even that might drop if your line deteriorates or you get more cross talk making the difference even more negligible.

      Sure, thanks - much appreciated
I wonder if there are other ways or alternatives I could have to "better" the line in someway.

They are working on tech called vectoring, which might give a speed boost or at the very least keep people's lines more stable.
You and people like myself, who are quite far from the cabinet, probably won't see a speed increase with vectoring unfortunately.
The next big thing is FTTP (fibre to the premises).
It's already being trailed, and in certain places soon, should be available.
It's not cheap, installation will be expensive, but you would have top speeds of up to 330mbps.
You may even be allowed to have a FTTP, and pay for the service you want, like 40/10 or 80/20.
