      Re: wireless speeds

I think all Ipads are 802.11N however they're single stream devices so a maximum link rate of 65Mbit/s on a 20mhz channel I'm not sure if Ipads will make use of 40mhz wide channels (150Mbit/s link speed for a single stream device) even if 40mhz mode is enabled on the router.

Then of-course the actual throughput is lower than the link rate.

It has been rumoured that a software update will eventually allow the iPad3 to use the 40Mz channels, allowing it to connect at 150mbps. There is an interesting WiFi comparison of the 3 iPads here-
enterprise wi-fi iPad 3, enterprise wireless networks iPad 3, iPad 3 wi-fi reception, iPad 3 wifi reception, iPad 3 wi-fi performance

I'd imagine if that does happen it will be in 5ghz only, My Mac for instance won't allow 40mhz mode in 2.4ghz as far as I can tell.

Standard Apple - my Mac doesn't support 40mhz at 2.4 GHz either, so I searched, and found Apple consider this "responsible" as there are so few 2.4 GHz channels in built up areas.

I've a friend in New York who can't use WiFi at all, she can see about 150 different SSID's when she clicks on her Mac's WiFi icon - she's luckily using Ethernet !
