Not as clear cut as that though over 18 months. If you don't download torrents and can put up with some shaping, then BT is an attractive option. Just not for me though.

As you can see by all the different responses it would be easy to look at raw discounted prices and yes initially BT Infinity looked good. However you had failed to take into account the Line Rental figures as you cannot have either package without it.

It may complicate things but you also need to factor in the type of calls you make and when.

As for connection speeds, both should give the same in the same home as both packages rely on the same BTO Modem. However BT does slow your connection down during "peak hours", leaving you unable to pull the maximum connection speed in the evenings and at the weekend.

Whilst a few members are commenting on connections that are slowing down at some times, this will be resolved as Sky increase the backbone bandwidth once more. BT however might be increasing the bandwidth, but their network is swamped with traffic from all the other ISPs that use the same backbone.

Support is another very important aspect. Whilst Sky does use a call centre based in India, the majority of it's call centres are based in and around the UK. There are call centres in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

With BT Retail is it the other way around. Most of their support calls (and post) all gets sent to BT India, with a small call centre in England. This has caused a lot of complaints, including from myself.

Each package is different and you need look into and understand the differences before coming to the conclusion that one is better than the other. People are signing up to both packages in areas where both are available.

I think so. Apparently someone else in Bridgend is downloading the Internet.

Some numbers with line rental included:

Over 18 months based on non up front line rental & standard application (i.e not having to haggle to get the installation charge dropped) it seems to be (per month)

      29.71 - BT Infinity - 40/10
      36.82 - BT Infinity 2 - 80/20
      35.03 - Sky Fibre - 40/2
      45.03 - Sky Fibre Pro - 80/20
