Yeah, I'm going to have to sit out the 10 day DLM first.

Nothing on the Sky website. Their broadband faults thing comes back as clean for my exchange.

It is a very odd problem though. 500-600KB/s on an individual connection (to a server that I can guarantee 7MB/s on) yet Usenet churns along at 7.3MB/s all night long..........

Re: Why are HTTP downloads only going at 700KB/s

I can see now that the speed has dropped to 2MB/s through FTP

Starting to think it's simply down to congestion??????????????

Do Sky add more capacity where there are problems? Do I need to report it?

First time in 4 years I've ever had to "contend" with other users.

Usenet still screams along at 7.3MB/s though

It may be worth contacting Sky if this is the case.

Judging from the posts of other members it may take a little time for them to appreciate what you are saying though.

Also, when downloading files do you use a download manager or rely on the built in M$ one? I've used Download Accelerator Plus for some time now and it allows multiple streams.

Yeah internal browser mechanisms - so Chrome/Firefox/etc etc

Think I will have to look into Download Accelerator Plus, thanks for the headsup

Do visit the 'Configuration' page and go through the different pages of options. From memory the default settings are the best for a broadband connection. I would also recommend that you enable the feature to scan all your downloads too using your AV software.

Re: Why are HTTP downloads only going at 700KB/s

I feel a bit of a lemon now.

I've just switched off my VMWare ESX Server as I noticed the Sky router/modem was going bananas even though my PC was doing nothing.

Strangely everything is now going at full pelt.

Time to do some investigation on my network
