Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

Iíve just had Sky Fibre Unlimited installed and in general I am very happy, however I have found that I am unable to port forward SSH using the new Sagem F@ST2504n router.

My old routers had no problem port forwarding SSH and I have setup the new Sagem router in the same way as before but without success.

I see form a quick Google that others have had issues port forwarding SSH on some Sagem routers but I've not seen any resolution to the issue.

Has anyone had this issue too and if so has anyone found a way to get this working?

P.S. Here is my new router information:
      Manufacturer Sagemcom
      Model Number F@ST2504n
      Firmware Version 5.27.1a4N

Is your router connected to the Internet when you are trying to forward the port?

Also which port are you trying to forward?

I have to port forward 2222 because 22 isn't allowed from work, but it works fine on my 2504

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

Yes the router is connected to the internet, I'm using the remote management feature to configure the firewall rules from work to enable SSH (port 22) pass through so I can connect to a server at home from my work computer but no matter what I try, the port is not passed through.

I did check with the network guys at work to see if they had suddenly blocked outgoing SSH (port 22) but they have not and others were able to SSH from work to external servers so it’s not a problem with the network at work.

I had set this up without a problem on my previous Sky router; it seems that the new Sagem router provided as part of the Fibre Unlimited package has a specific problem with forwarding port 22

Is it possible for you to change things to use a different port and test with that?

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

I’ve got other ports open such as 80 (HTTP) and 443 (SSL) and they work fine.

I’ve tried a few different things now, I’ve tried defining my own service using port 22 and adding that to the firewall rules, but no success. I’ve even tried creating a firewall rule to forward ‘any(All)’ ports, and although this allows me to connect to ports such as 80 and 443 I still can’t connect to SSH on port 22!

I’ve read many articles that state it’s not worth contacting Sky for support with this as Sky themselves do not support port forwarding, it is simply a function of the router. I can understand this as Sky are just the service provider, not the hardware manufacturer, so I tried looking at the Sagem site for support and to my surprise there is specific information for the Sky branded router (Sagemcom Support Center) there is no real ‘technical’ support, only a very basic FAQ and nothing to help me with this specific issue.

I’m getting close to calling Sky and asking for a new router by a different manufacturer as this seems to only be an issue with the Sagem routers, although I’m not sure they have that level of control over the router allocations so I may be forced to buy my own replacement router.

Either way it’s frustrating as this was working before I ‘upgraded’ to Fibre broadband.

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

i read somewhere on the sky forums that its a network issue, and that its being looked at. ports 22, 23 and 25 are blocked by sky so no matter what router you use aint going to fix it :/

as suggested, using a port that isn't blocked by sky is your only solution for ssh for now.

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

Currently on my home network I have two NAS drives and my router can also share a drive. I have no option but to assign different ports to each and not use the default ports.

I can access each independently and without any bother.

Whilst I appreciate that this means that you will need to update any software from using the default settings, it will work quite safely.

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

Very odd that Sky would block 22 (ssh) but not 80 (http) or 443 (https)

Users would be far more likely to want to run HTTP servers from their home connections...

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

Thank you all, I think the suggestions to use a different port is my only option as I contacted Sky yesterday and I quote… 'I am sorry to inform you that Sky do not provide support for port release'. The fact that there referring to this as 'port release' does not fill me with confidence that they even know what I'm talking about, or if they do I doubt if they know how to fix it.

I’m just frustrated that this was not an issue with my old router and although there are lots of reports of similar issues there doesn’t seem to be a real fix for it at the moment.

I’ll keep my eye on the forums and hope that a future firmware will resolve this issue.
