Sadly if you want to know anything about port forwarding, you won't get an answer from Sky.

The normal answer you get is "we don't support that".

Another option would be to consider getting your own Cable router and configuring it as the main router. You could get a Billion router and use it's new firmware or you could consider another and use the DG-WRT firmware.

instructions for both are available on this forum.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

Unexpectedly, I’ve just had a call from Sky with regard to the email I sent asking for clarification on the issue with SSH. Although initially they were spouting the party line ‘Sky don’t support port forwarding’ eventually I spoke to someone very helpful Sky Fibre support who actually took the time to do some investigating and he found that Sky are currently blocking ports 19, 21, 22, 23 and 25 due to a firewall miss-configuration. I assume this is either only just happened or only affecting Sky Fibre as I was able to use SSH with standard Sky Broadband last week without incident.

Anyway, he explained that Sky is aware that these ports are being blocked (inadvertently) and they are investigating the issue. Unfortunately they do not have any idea on a time frame for a resolution but at least this explains the issues I have been experiencing.

I hope this helps anyone else that may be having this issue.

P.S. After a very dismissive initial response to my email from Sky I was starting to think that Sky was just another faceless company that doesn’t actually offer any support to their customers. However, I have to say that after this experience, although they could not resolve the issue, they did take the time to contact me and investigate the issue. As such I’m quite pleased with the support I received, which sadly is unusual in this day and age.

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

      Hi

Just to let you know I had exactly the same problem - I switched SSH on my server to 9009 (or similar) and forwarded that port through and it works fine (as lon as one remembers to tell the client to connect over 9009 rather than 22). Conveniently my work also doesn't prevent outgoing connections on 9009 whereas it does stop 22, so this works well in both ways.

      Good luck

Just run into the exact same issue, thanks for posting your experience.
[edit] moved to a new high port so all working again.

Are sky going to inform you when the issue has been resolved?

They said there was not time frame for this issue to be resolved and I should 'keep trying' so I'm not expecting any notification when they do finally resolve this issue.

If I'd do discover that the ports become open I'll be sure to update this post.

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

I thought I'd take another look to see where the issue was, so I set up a SSH server on a laptop listening to port 22, connected a network tap between the BT openreach box and the Sky router, set up a new firewall rule for this host and to my surprise I could connect to it from the outside world!
I then took out the tap, re-configured my NAS to listen to port 22, re-did the firewall rules to point to it and that worked as well!!

Looks like it's fixed, can you verify?

Re: Unable to port forward SSH with new Sagem F@ST2504n?

In deed SSH issue (port 22) seems to be fixed now. However I still can't get my NAS working (samba - port 445) do anyone know if this is related to SSH issue or it's permanently blocked, my NAS was fine for years on sky bb before I switched to fibre. This is really annoying, sky is so lame.
