Just got the new Sagem Fast 2504n Router but...

Hey guys great to be a member of this very informative forum

Just a few questions though, I am waiting for the BT Openreach engineer to come round today between 1pm - 6pm to install my new Fibre Broadband Unlimited. I have the new Sagem Fast 2504n Router from sky but my laptop is only Wireless G capable so i need to buy a wireless n usb adapter but i am not sure what to get?

I have my eye on the D-Link Wireless-N Nano USB Adapter DWA-131

      Specs here: D-Link Wireless N USB Nano Adapter (DWA-131) - www.misco.co.uk

What do you think? My laptop is always in my living room and same as my router so range will not be a problem.

      Thanks alot.

As much as I would love to say that it will work, which it should, I have looked on the D-Link website and can't see what the maximum connection speed that it supports is. Take a look at the thread linked below to see what I am referring to this informations:

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/techn...on-speeds.html

If I were you, I would search around a little more to see if either this D-Link DWA-131 supports 144mbps on a single channel or better, or get a different adaptor which does.

Ideally aim for an adaptor that supports at least 300mbps on WiFi n.

Ok thanks for your speedy reply, Just question though do you know if the Sagem Fast 2504n is dual band? or is it just 2.4 GHz as most wireless adaptors that i have seen are 2.4 GHz.

I just found D-links press release from 2009 and it does work upto 300Mb/s but you will not get that when connecting to the Sagem router. It will connect to the Sagem at 144Mb/s. So yes it should work fine.

oh...and good luck with your install

      D-link press release

EDIT: also its only 14 on amazon with free delivery http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-link-Wirel.../dp/B002PD61Y4

I use wireless G and get 23Mbit on my laptop. My wifes laptop is N so works at the full 40, so is my work laptop.

Up to you whether 23Mbit on a laptop is enough? I'm generally happy with that because most of the time it is hardwired @ 100Mbir

Re: Just got the new Sagem Fast 2504n Router but...

In many ways it does depend on what you generally do with each laptop. If you are constantly pushing the bandwidth, then upgrading the adaptor could be an option to improve things.

With the ever increasing demands that we place on our computers, slow processors, hard drives and network connections just are not going to be able to cope with what some people are going to throw at them. You do need to look at the whole package.
