Advantages/Disadvantages of using HG612 or ECI

      Hi

I have the supplied ECI modem for fibre, and got hold of a unlocked HG612 as a backup in the event of my BT modem dying. I know they match the modems to the hardware, but what disadvantages are there using the wrong modem? I connected it and it synced at the full 40/2. Also what are the advantages of gaining access to the interface on the HG612? or it it a matter of because I can? and to see the attainable rates?

      Cheers

      John

Do the rates show up on the HG612?

Had engineer at mine today due to a fault i was having. I also have an ECI modem that was installed when infinity was on the 5th May. The problem was in the master socket. the faceplate but he changed the whole lot. He also gave me a brand new HG612 as he said their chipsets are far more superior than the ECI modems. The only problem is line tests will fail which they did as ECI modems should be used on ECI hardware and HG612 with their hardware. This will not cause problems with your sync and throughput it's just the testing that doesn't complete. Have you tried the HG612 yet? it may be a case that you don't get the line stats through it due to it not being HG612 hardware.

Thanks for the reply. I did get it connected yes, and had a root round the interface. I could see my max attainable rates, snr, attenuation and a few other bits and bobs. I didn't telnet in further.

Thanks a lot for the information though, it's very helpful.
