Sky Fibre Broadband and ADT monitored burglar alarm incompatible?

      Hi all,

Openreach came yesterday and installed my Sky Fibre and it's been mostly excellent. However, I went to set the ADT alarm last night and the phone line appears to have been disconnected from the alarm monitoring system which started beeping through the night

So thinking that maybe Openreach have not connected up the faceplate properly, I phoned up Sky and they said that Sky Fibre is "incompatible with your ADT alarm because it is all Sky equipment now" They went on to say that they need to put me back on my old ADSL broadband. This is hugely disappointing to me, however, reading the SkyUser FAQ here, I see that I may have a solution:

"One important fact to point out is in relation to any other telephone extensions that you may have. If you previously used a microfilter on all your sockets, this will no longer be required with Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre since the Master Socket will have a filtered faceplate. All the extensions are automatically filtered at that point. The one thing to watch for would be things like burglar alarms that are wired behind your master socket and thus will need to be filtered or rewired to the normal faceplate. If this is the case with you, please contact your alarm company."
Does anyone else have a monitored house alarm system (ADT specifically) and also have Sky Fibre? Any opinions/further help? I really don't want to go back to ADSL after have my 5Mbs line jacked up to 36Mbs!

      TIA

Re: Sky Fibre Broadband and ADT monitored burglar alarm incompatible?

How was you alarm previously connected to the telephone line?

Ideally it should be wired to the back of the NTE5 faceplate using pins 2 & 5. Since the vDSL faceplate that is now fitted will filter out the broadband signal from this faceplate, you will no longer need a microfilter for the alarm when connecting it in this manner.

There has been an incident posted on this forum where a member had his alarm wired directly to the telephone line prior to the master socket. This cause no end of problems before it was identified.

Thanks Scubbie - I think the alarm phone line is hard-wired to the master socket. I have ADT coming out tomorrow at Sky's expense to have a look, but I will make sure your suggestion is considered.

There is a good chance the BTO engineer did not connect the alarm back into the master socket. Do you have other extensions? Do they work?

I'm hoping this is the case - all my other phone extensions are working fine. Awaiting ADT to turn up...

Quick update: It was just a dodgy alarm phone line connection - ADT turned up and connected it up - all is ok!

      Well done!

Is it something that the BTO Engineer could have damaged or something else?

Nah - the BTO engineer just didn't connect up the alarm phone line.
