I've had my Sky Fibre Broadband about 2 weeks now and since the 10 day line testing by Sky has finished I've been testing my Broadband speed 3 times a day.I've tested using the same test site but using 3 different browsers giving the following results

IExplorer 38 Mbps Ds and 1.89 Mbps Us
Chrome 21 Mbps Ds and 1.87 Mbps Us
FFox 31 Mbps Ds and 1.87 Mbps Us

It looks like certain browsers being used can give incorrect results.

Thanks launton for the link,it returned a Ds speed of 38 Mbps Ds for me

Chrome gave me my highest speed test result and my lowest. Firefox and IExplorer run pretty much the same for me but Firefox gives me lower ping results.

      Another good tester is http://mirror.leaseweb.net/

Gave very accurate results for downloading.

Can't take credit for the link peeps, it was posted on here by someone else although it gives the best test for me. Also, I notice late night, early morning is best as well

Sigh, I do wish people would stop relying on speedtest.net for speed tests.

      Such a synthetic test!!

Has anyone read "Understanding Broadband Speed Measurements" by Bauer, Clark & Lehr? It's on the M-Labs website (additional resources).

Different speedtesters use different methods etc etc and there are so many variables that come into play that it's almost impossible to get an accurate result. So once you start comparing one speedtester with another well...

Yep, I've done a handful of speed tests just for curiosity - but as long as it feels like it's going fast, I'm not worrying about it!
