      Another dissapointed install

Installed yesterday morning by maybe the most unfriendly openreach engineer (despite my supply of tea & chocolate biscuits!).

      But with the following stats:

      Modem Status
      Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed
      9412 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed
      572 kbps

to say i was a little dissapointed was a understatment.

The Sky & Bt checker's both indicated 15meg (been stuck on 4meg dsl although my upstream was quicker on dsl than fibre!) so anything would have been an improvment. Although im only 850 ish meters from the cabinet so was hoping for a bit more thn advertised!

Had to wait nearly 12 hrs after BT left before the landline could accept incoiming calls as well!

Have spoke to the sky fibre team, thet finally manged a line test and said that it passed and gave me the usual about 10 days DLM etc etc.

Think it maybe a long ten days! Also i seem to have the ECI modem? had i quick look but couldn't seem to find any easy way to get the stats from it?

      Any help/advice greatly appeciated.

      Chris

you can't get the stats from the ECI modem without major physcial tampering, would hold off just in case you need BTO outag

Only two things I would point out -

      1. Despite being only 850 metres from the cabinet - how far is the physical line *actually* running?
      2. Do you have a line composed of aluminium...?

Not too sure of either? Is there any way i can tell?

Been connected now for over 48 hrs solid no disconnections but sync speed has not budged?

I re-booted about a hour after BT left but not touched it since, is it best left on for the DLM?

      Thanks Chris

3 weeks & 3 openreach engineer visits(12 hrs worth) later and we have reached the dizzy heights of 11meg!!!

Had a lift & shift done, new cabinet connection, new (another one!) master socket.

Been referred bt openreach to the SMC as a sub 15meg line with the comment that my line must take an extremly scenic route from the cabinet!

Paying sky over 100 a month now, so think it's time for some money back.
