      Billion 7800N

      Hi,

I know this has been gone over several times but I'm a little fuzzy on it all. I have the above router and the wireless is excellent.

Currently I'm on the ADSL package and accquired my user and pass from my sky router. Next week I'm moving to SBUF and have my new router.

As the Billion supports MER is there an easy to get this working on the WAN port from the BTO modem? So I don't need the sky box?

      Thanks in advance.

      Nick

The current firmware for the 7800 doesn't support fibre but if you keep an eye on http://www.billion.uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=382 they're hoping to launch a firmware before the end of the week which will work

I have DD WRT on a linksys box that I used as an wireless AP.

I can't see any support for DD WRT on the 7800N.

However it would seem that Billion UK have already written a firmware that works for Sky's MER on ADSL and this week or next will be releasing another firmware for Sky's fibre products.

Take a look on the Billion UK forum under 7800.

      Cheers

      Re: Billion 7800N

I am aware of the iminent firmware realease for the 7800N for Sky Fibre, I was under the impression that this release will allow the 7800N to act as the modem and router negating the need for the BTO modem. Would it not work by keeping the BTO modem and running the cat cable from the BTO modem to the EWAN port of the 7800N?

      Re: Billion 7800N

      yes,

I would not expect a cable adsl/cable router to be able to work as a VDSL modem, it would not have the hardware to be able to do that

Isn't that what Billion are working on though?

the 7800N works just as well with cable providers, such as Virgin, and also new superfast broadband packages from BT Infinity and other providers using NGN (Next Generation Network) technologies, including FTTC, FTTP and VDSL.

After that they are hoping to start working on/testing new firmware for the 8200N.
