re: Sky Admits fault with Sky and BT network resulting in slow connects @ 1/2 speed

The way I am thinking of it is it is workig the same way as the old BT ADSL connection test, where you could put bt_test@startup_domain into your connection and then bt_test_user@your_connnection_pipe for the speed test. This let you know whether your ISP or the actual connection was at fault. This was before the days of LLU when everyone was on a BT or rebadged connection.

Ah yes, vaguely remember that from back in the old "happy days" of PIPEX 512Kbps ADSL circa 2002!

When I try it on ADSL it times out at BT Manchester. It will be interesting to see what happens with Fibre.

I thought that I read elsewhere that BT speed tester only worked for BT & BT reseller ISPs?

Maybe the host at 62.6.196.202 (vhsaccess1-pos8-0.manchester.fixed.bt.net) is set to deny incoming traffic from non-BT IP addresses?

re: Sky Admits fault with Sky and BT network resulting in slow connects @ 1/2 speed

After having some food, it must have been for thought, I have come to the conclusion that tracing to the BT speedtester will prove nothing As you are accessing it through the Sky Connection it is not going to give you any useful information. It may be completely different if you are accessing it as a speed tester where your connection is handled by the BT server.

Anybody else got a theory on why it should show the highest speed?

Don't know if this has been answered but my exchange is listed as congested on the sky broadband service status page and is now due to be repaired by early June, would that have anything to do with the slow speeds or would it just affect me in the evenings (which it does).

Unfortunately it could well be the case. What Speed results to you get when everyone else is asleep or during the day time (not weekends)?

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
