Just ordered it today cant wait

Just ordered it today cant wait. Going from O2 4.5 meg to this is going to be awesome. One question though. The sales assistant said I might get faster than 40 although that will not be guaranteed. I checked on BT's site and my line according to infinity is able to receive 73 mb down.

Is that correct ? I assumed they just capped it at 40 even if its capable of more with sky.

Currently, You won't get higher then 40Mbps as that's the only package that Sky have available at this moment in time. This is unless you were offered the Fibre Pro package (80/20) by Sky on the phone.

Enjoy it though, I went from an ADSL connection of about the same as yours and the difference is incredible - you will really appreciate it!

I have just placed an order on the sky website, install booked for 16th may.
I am currently on sky unlimited capped at 5.5 mbps, so any increase would be useful

All set for the install tomorrow. Floorboards ripped up to get the cable hidden so a good opportunity to hide the sky+ cables too !!
Also allowed me to run CAT5 cable to the three main rooms on the ground floor. No more messing around with wireless and everything dropping out when the microwave gets turned on.

Will post the speeds after install and how things go. All well I hope .

Well Openreach arrived a 2pm. Very friendly chap and we discussed the cable routing. I also asked him to replaced 20 year old aluminium cable from the street box which run into my house with new year 2012 copper shielded cable.

I watched with anticipation as he hooked up the line tester box before wiring up the NTE. Synced at full speed woop.

Once all the final cabling , modem and router connection was finished I tested my main PC which is now connected vie Cat5. This gave several results from random servers using speedtest.net. The fastest was 38.8 down 1.94 up the slowest was 26 down 1.2 up.
I guess these tests depend on the server load and whatever links they are on.
Using wireless on my Laptop from upstairs at the farthest point with the weakest signal I still get 30 down (this is the speed in the pic posted below)

Tested a few direct downloads from Cnet, microsoft etc then a few large torrents. All of which are incredibly fast, sooooo happy you couldnt wipe the smile of my face right now

Gaming ping times have dropped as well. They now average from 11 - 32 depending on the servers locations.

Awsome job Sky . 100% recommend this to anyone.

Did he do it ? There have been plenty of posts recently about BT saying this was too expensive ??

yeah it was only about 4 metres, and had a lot of the plastic coating cracked / missing showing to the elements. Either way if he did not replace it I had exterior cat5 cable to replace it myself when he had left.

Good on him but I'm confused ?? You would have replaced it yourself ? Your not allowed to tamper with BT kit.
