Sky Fibre Speeds and TCP Optimisation

Quite a few members have been complaining about poor throughput speeds on their Sky Fibre Unlimited connections.

Could I ask people to just add some simple information to see if there is a common pattern. To start with could you please add the following:
      1. Reported sync speed on Sagem 2504N (up & down in kbps)
      2. Speed test results given from the link on this forum
      3. If using Windows, could you repeat the test in Safe Mode with Networking as well and identify those results too
      4. Method of connection (WiFi or Ethernet Cable)
      5. Computing equipment used (i.e. iPad v1, Laptop Win 7 Dual Core i3 2.93GHz)
      6. Whether any Optimisation software has been used (i.e. TCP Optimizer, Norton Utilities, Advance SystemCare) and if you could name it and the version number
      7. Exchange name
      8. Estimated connection speed
If you have performed the test using more than one device, could you list all in the same post please?

Please try to keep all posts strictly on topic.

Many thanks in advance of your responses.

Edit: This can be used for those who have no issues as well as those who have problems. In order to identify any issues we need to seed the good and bad.

      Edit2: Added 7 & 8 to Questions

Nope, we need to see the good and the bad. Otherwise we'll only get false answers. So please everyone, keep them coming.

      Thank you.

      1. 39998/1999
      2. 20.17Mbps/1.7Mbps
      3. N/A
      4. Tried both WiFi and ethernet where possible, no difference in results.
      5. iPad 2nd gen, iMac mid-2007 2.0ghz w/ 4gb RAM, Toshiba Satellite C660 Core i3 w/ 8gb RAM.
      6. Optimisation software on the Toshiba C660 (TuneUp Utilities), none on the iPad or iMac.
      7. Padgate (LVPAD) exchange.
      8. 59.7Mbps/20Mbps

EDIT: Also, just in case this helps, my connection seems very poor at the moment. It doesn't seem to 'disconnect' as such, but it has periods where websites suddenly stop loading and downloads fail. I only had it installed today! Not a good first impression, I must say. I'm ringing Sky in the morning because this is just plain ridiculous.

Re: Sky Fibre Speeds and TCP Optimisation

Great information coming in so far.

If people could try to use the speed tester on this site I would be grateful. This way everyone is using the same server irrespective of what the Speedtest.net site provides. The link is at the top of the page.

In previous tests I have managed to get between 10Mb-22Mb in one evening from the same computer off the site. All tests were carried out on UK servers.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Re: Sky Fibre Speeds and TCP Optimisation

      1. 39992 down 2000 up
      2. 29.98 Down 1.81 Up (Wireless) 31.12 down 1.82 up wired
      3. Samne result
      4. I am using my own router connected to the sky one. Sky router makes no difference. Infact is slower over wireless.
      5. Ipad V1 (19.8 down 2 up), AMD X6 overclocked to 3.86ghtz and 16gb RAM (wireless 29.98 down 1.81 up connected at 300mbs solid), Sony Vaio Laptop, dual core 2.2ghtz 4gb ram (wired)
      6. None
Interestingly, I have noticed that if I do a speed test on speedtester.btinternet.com I get 37mb down 1.9mb up wired and 33 down 1.81 up wireless?

Points 1-6 used the speedtester on this site
