FTTC - Sync Speeds vs real world

This is a discussion on FTTC - Sync Speeds vs real world within the Sky Broadband (Fibre) Help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I'm a little puzzled at the moment. Your router is syncing at the full 40/2 connection speed, less a few ...

Re: FTTC - Sync Speeds vs real world

I'm a little puzzled at the moment. Your router is syncing at the full 40/2 connection speed, less a few kbps.

I wonder if perhaps the computer needs checking over to ensure that it is correctly configured for the LAN? Perhaps some optimisation software to fix any connection settings? Perhaps something such as Advanced SystemCare might be sufficient to fix it.

What processor and OS is in your computer?

I haven't had an opportunity to use my own computers on a FTTC connection but I would hope that I won't have similar problems.

This isn't required as the 3rd set of results were in Safe Mode and the AV & Firewall software would have been disabled.

I am having EXACTLY the same problem. The sync speed is a few kb short of 40/2, but yet the maximum attainable speed test result is approximately 23 meg. This is using different computers, different speed tests, both wireless and wired for all configurations. Its really frustrating. Any ideas anyone? My connection was installed Friday morning.

Re: FTTC - Sync Speeds vs real world

I'm also having a similar issue. Syncing originally at 39997 down and 2000 up the average download speed I manage to obtain is again around 23Meg (on the Sky User speed tester the best I managed peaked at about 26). The fibre was installed last Tuesday and was an upgrade from Sky BB Unlimited.

I've tried a couple of laptops (both relatively new), wired & wireless connections, disabled firewalls and anti-virus etc but still can't get any higher speeds. Yesterday I tried resetting both the BTO modem and the Sky router but to no effect (re-synced at 39992 and 2000).

I'm awaiting a callback from the Sky Fibre team so that they can go through some checks but if anyway else has any ideas I'll happily try them out.

Please let us know what the Fibre team come back with GXM. It would be interesting to know if the thread starter was a new customer or an upgrade? Dont think it would be possible as its two different techs but is there any possibility that any of the line config from the previous connection is being applied to the new fibre one?

Coincidence that 24mbit is the max speed of ADSL2+...?

Although Sky limit theirs to 20.
If usenet is full speed then is it just http traffic thats limited? Could you try an ftp, or maybe even https to see if you get the same speed limit?

This is interesting for me. I have had mine installed this morning. Now I have only very briefly used it because I have had to go back to work but intial testing came back at approximately the same results as you with my sync speed exactly the same as yours.

I do suspect it might be the laptop I used though so I will do some more thorough testing tonight and see if I can improve it.

I have exactly the same issue after my install this morning. BTO engineer advised that line capable of 120mbit. I can practically touch the cabinet from where I am. Syncing at 39997 down and 2000 up but speed test results around 23 meg.

Re: FTTC - Sync Speeds vs real world

When I get in tonight from work I'm going to ring fibre support and ask them to perform and full reset on my line, if there is any profile on the line still (I'm still not sure this is possible) then it should be cleared. Will let you know how it goes, in the meantime let me know if anyone else comes up with something.

I also have the same issue so I'm guessing there must be something wrong at sky's end,I upgraded from unlimited broadband so maybe that's got something to do with it?
