Yeah, the engineer should call before he starts work as he'll be disconnecting you're phone line for a couple of minutes.

When my BTO engineer came, he phoned when he was around the corner, came in & did a quick inspection of where the equipment was being installed.

He then disappeared off to the cabinet to re-jumper the line over to the fibre cabinet. Once he'd done that he came back, swapped out the faceplate, installed the VDSL modem & connected up my router.

I did all the PC setup as I didn't want the BTO engineer trying to install any software etc..

      as twiglet said..

in my case he knocked on the door, introduced himself and said he was off to the cabinet and that I would lose my telephone for 10-20 mins so he could jumper the line. then he knocked again even though I left the door open, installed the faceplate and modem and waited for me to connect up and see what I was getting as he wasn't told that the job was for SFU.

He gave me a call and said phone and ADSL would go down in 10 minutes and he would be at the house in 15 minutes. He was here all of 10 minutes during the install and testing.
