It is believed that Sky were to have launched an ad campaign this last week. I am guessing that BT's announcement messed this up.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Judging from what they are saying over the phone, they are not advertising it heavily yet due to it not being widely available, those that want it and are able to have it can. I think they are just keeping the proposition simple at the moment and see how Fibre fairs over the coming months, if anything its had a soft launch with probably a view to full marketed launch at some point....

I can see why they have launched it at 30 but even though I would benefit from the increase as my line can support 80mb, I won't pay an extra 10 a month for it because real world benefit to me doesn't justify the added expenditure

this product does not appear to make that much sense to the masses

could be attractive to the more tech savvy user who will pay a premium to get an unshaped truly unlimited service, but not many will do that - it might attract plenty of business from other more aware users who might be paying more at smaller ISPs

i order sky fibre this monday, i would not pay an extra 10 per month as my line will not support 80/20, i did even consider cancelling an doing the off to BT. but i thought better than that.

will stick around using 40/2 (if those are the speeds I get!) and see how the product develops, i would hope some improvement on the upload speed comes along gratis

BT checker says i can get 39.6Mb download, 6.5Mb upload

Love how nobody is happy about this. The fact is that there isn't full information available yet. Perhaps Sky'll be adding more benefits to this package. Maybe they will make it totally worthwhile to upgrade. The package isn't even fully launched yet. Remember how the 40/2 package was soft launched about 6 weeks before the big launch. Full package details will come. It's not even guaranteed to be 30 yet, that's just what the brief says. They brief a lot that doesn't happen so just wait and see.

that's just what the brief says.
Well there's a 4th person to state that the product exists as per the brief.

Granted it is not officially confirmed yet though.

We need to play a waiting game. Could be 30 for non SkyTV but 'free' upgrade on standard fibre for sky TV customers.... who knows!!

re: Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro Rumour

Not sure why anyone would pay the extra 10. Sky would need to charge 26.80 for the product to be equal to BT:

Summary - Based on this rumour:

      Sky - 40 / 2 Sky - 80 / 20 BT - 80 / 20
Line Rental - if paid up front 9.95 9.95 10.75
      BB Charge 20.00 30.00 26.00
      Total 29.95 39.95 36.75

So, nothing here tempting me to cancel the 80 / 20 order that I placed with BT.

Presumably, this whole exercise is a managed leak by Sky to test the waters and see what they can get away with charging. I think the answer has to be 25 for the pro product to undercut BT by a marginal amount.

It sounds like Sky have worked out that they can't compete. Presumably, this is the reason that they are trying to tie people into new (standard unlimited BB) contracts by offering 6 months free. Sky must be hoping that people sign 12 months away before they realise that BT are offering a more competitive top end offering.

I think Sky have lost this round and should be planning for the launch of FTTP on demand this time next year. Otherwise, they will be playing catch up again.

Btw, I just checked the sky speed checker to see if it was offering the 80 / 20 product. It actually isn't offering any FTTC product now. It seems like the checker is broken as it was previously offering the 40 / 2 product on my line.
