if you have the HG612 BTO modem you will need to unlock it

      Huawei HG612 Hacking

      instructions are on the right

If you have the ECI Modem afaik the only way to do this at the moment is to open it up and re-solder something
AirPort Extreme + Sky Fibre Guide | Mac OSX Automator for xDSL stats for HG612 & Vigor 130

      Hauwei Cab > VMG1312-B10A > RT-86U Merlin | 58301/12298

My max attainable rate dropped from 80 to 72 so far but haven't seen it drop any further.

As said before, you could phone them 10 times and you'd most likely get 10 different answers.

Just noticed something on TalkTalk site, and current customers can't upgrade to 80/20 either until Summer.

More about Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband

If I currently have up to 40Mb can I register for up to 80Mb?

      Yes, please visit www.talktalk.co.uk/fibre
For customers that have up to 40Mb, the technology to upgrade to up to 80Mb product will be available summer 2012.

One thing is for sure their ordering system is not performing the way it should. Fibre is still it seems on trial with sky and maybe it was a wise move to offer a phased roll out and regardless of whos fault it is causing the delay the fibre team at sky are still learning. This seems to the the reason why they have had no big media splashes about fibre or charging for connection.
I have to say, looking thought the more recent posts makes me glad that I decided to switch to BT. Lots of pros/cons that I considered like a lot of folk on this forum, most of whom seem to be sticking with Sky. For me personally, I've gone from a max speed of 5.5 mbps to 75 mbps, so all in all quite happy even if I'm not really using all the new bandwidth.

I hope that everyone here eventually gets the connection and service that they deserve. I share all the frustration that people have.

Once my initial 10 day period is complete, I will post a fuller assessment of switching (good and bad).
