Maybe turn it off and disconnect the rj11 cable until the new firmware is on? I've looked but can't seem to find a concrete answer on this anywhere and I'd really like to unlock the modem to have a nosey at line stats etc. but not if it's going to cause DLM to put me on a lower profile or what not.
I turned mine off a few hours after install, can't remember why though. Didn't suffer any problems

Why can't you just leave it alone? Your all obsessed by stats and firmware. Then when it goes wrong you'll be on here going in about that too!

Obsessed is a strong word, I'm just intrigued by what my line is capable of and it's no real biggy flashing a firmware :s In the highly unlikely event it does go wrong (lol) don't worry I won't be on here harping about it, I'll just plug another modem in and get on with it.

You could try running Routerstats Lite, that may give you some ideas -
