      4 more sleeps

Router arrived this morning. Would I be right in thinking that, as I am an existing Sky BBU customer I should able to replace the existing Netgear router now and it should just work ? And then on Friday just connect the port (closest to the power button) to the BTO modem the engineer installs ?

Also, what is the optimal LAN 'spine' ? At the moment I have everything (PC, NAS and homeplug - all 10/100/1000) plugged into the 10/100 Netgear router. Would I see much of a LAN performance increase if I changed it to (PC, NAS, homeplug) -> 10/100/1000 switch -> router ?

      New fibre router: check
Tea, biscuits, and other treaty things for Mr Openreach Engineer: check
All wired kit plugged into new gigabit switch (I'll hook that up to the router when the work's done): check

      Now, where is he...

      Got mine this morning

Synced at 39992 and upload at 2000. Initial speed tests looked promising but had to dash back out to work but so far very happy

You should be able to connect your new fibre router today and use your current connection until your fibre goes live at that point swap over to ethernet on port1.

As for the rest of your question, our resident Wifi & NAS specialist (Scubbie) should be along to shortly

Work in progress. Openreach engineer couldn't contact us by phone (claims no answer, but phone hasn't rung... hmmm...), but was good enough to come to the door to let us know he was getting started. Away back to do the cabinet work now.

Its funny you should say that. Luckily he managed to contact me by mobile phone. But the first question he asked me was, 'Don't suppose you know your home number do you mate? SKY haven't told me what it is?' Couldn't believe it....

wow...same problem with my engineer, he couldn't get hold of me, only by mobiel, and it was the incorrect version of my mobile number...I would of assumed he also had my house landline number too...don't they initially get your house landline number with the mobile number?

Or...is it sky's own fault for not giving it to the engineer?
