Further to my question earlier about my speed via Laptop, I assume that it could be down to using G despite the router being N. The laptop has a broadcom 802.11g network adapter so am I right in thinking that the laptop is a G so will never really get above the 20mb?

The Sagem 2504N works at a max connection figure of 144mbps on a single channel. This is a WiFi n spec and is the highest speed on a single channel. A WiFi g device will connect at no more than 54mbps. Broadcom make WiFi adaptors with WiFi n specs as well.

If you are thinking about changing the WiFi adaptor in your Laptop, then it is actually not too difficult in many cases. Do be careful to get a router board that fits and is the correct interface.

I found a few different types were available when I looked around last year for my own two Laptops. I also changed the board in a friend's laptop. The result being that it works a lot better over WiFi than before, even though her router works at 65mbps.

The boards cost between 10-50, depending on what you need and the specs you desire.

See the chart in the thread linked below. It may help you to understand what WiFi specs are around at the moment:

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/techn...on-speeds.html

You'll connect at the lowest speed available. Obviously this would mean that if you have a WiFi g adaptor in your Laptop, then this would be 54mbps. However it also means that if you have a card which connects at up to 150mbps, then you would connect at 72mbps on the Sagem 2504N.
