      Sky fibre - some questions

Hi All, Been following this forum for a while now and decided to sign up! I'm really interested in Sky fibre broadband but have a few questions before I make a decision. Hope you can help.

      1) I'm currently with Be so will I need a mac code to move onto sky fibre? I can't see anything on sky's website where you would do this when adding the product to the basket.

      2) I have a sky tv subscription but not sky line rental. After reviewing the cost I'm paying for BT line rental, it seems cheaper to move to sky's line rental. I'm guessing this is a simple process and I won't need to contact BT to cancel line rental with them before I order sky's line rental? Will I also keep my existing phone number?

      3) No traffic shaping / management - could anyone currently with sky's fibre confirm that speeds with p2p/torrents are maxing out their connections? (no throttling?) And if anyone uses usenet, what are the speeds like with that?

      4) On the order page, can you select your preferred installation date, or is one automatically given to you?

      Thanks!

To get Sky, you will need to take Sky Talk and Sky Line Rental, pretty sure during the signup process it will guide you through what you need to do.

      2) I have a sky tv subscription but not sky line rental. After reviewing the cost I'm paying for BT line rental, it seems cheaper to move to sky's line rental. As 1)

Sky do not traffic shape, never have done and never will, unless on Sky Connect - You have no need to worry.

      4) On the order page, can you select your preferred installation date, or is one automatically given to you?
No idea, it looks like it is approx 14 days from day of order so far.

If you are moving from a BT line to Sky LLU then you don't need a mac code!!! Just be careful as BT have been know to try to fine you for not using a Mac code!! The b******* tried it with me and it took several phone calls (last couple with me going mental) to bloody Indian call centres to resolve.

I signed up over the phone rather than on the website but there was no need to contact BT. We received a 'sorry to see you go' letter from BT about a week later. You should keep the same number.

I did. There seems to be inconsistencies in this information

I left Be LLU for sky and I did need my mac code. Some people do, some people don't, it depends on your particular setup but I don't know if you'd need it when moving directly to fibre. My SKY acct status requested the code after 2 days.

Another thing to note is requesting a code from Be does not automatically start 30 day cancellation, that must be requested separately of you'll be charged. Use Be's ticket system as well as Be's forum, there's a few staff members that can answer most of your questions, and you'll have hard copies if things mess up.

Went from BT Broadband to Sky LLU and didn *not* need a MAC code, despite acquiring one.

Re: Sky fibre - some questions

Going form another LLU provider is not the same as going from a bt line, any LLU provider can take over a working line from bt and should be a fairly simple process but going from LLU to LLU is a completely different process afaik.

I'm on the Be Value package. I don't know if that is LLU or not, and have BT line rental. Looks like I might need a mac code so will probably ask for one just in case when I decide to move to sky.

Could anyone who has signed up online answer my query about the preferred install date? Maybe I should just phone up instead.

      Thanks all.
