I phoned Sky Fibre this morning, I was told that at Launch, there aren't going to be any different packages for customers to order, only 40/2.
I was told that the faster derivatives are a couple of months away yet.
That would be a deal breaker for me. Unless there's a firm commitment at launch to 80 / 20 (price & date), I will jump ship. There's no reason why they shouldn't offer it now - other than having to pay BT Wholesale a few extra quid.

Same here ... BT can already guarantee me 34/6, with no connection fee (when switching my phone line back), keeping my current number and 26pm (20pm for the first 3 months).

And let's face it, you would also have the FTTP option available when supported. Presumably, Sky would need to test for a couple of years before they support FTTP.

Only you can decide if you are happy to take Sky 40/2 or BT's 34/6 - Sky have not offered any higher than 40/2 so far. I guess you will find out in just over 10 hours time, what exactly is available to you from Sky.

      Re: Believe in better

34 / 6 sounds pretty poor anyway for an 80/20 service. I'm getting quoted 55 / 18, which wasn't as good as I was hoping.

I was surprised that I could get 18/20 up when I can only get 55/80 down. I would have thought the percentages would have been similar. Maybe the line noise only effects the downstream traffic (!?!?!?)

I guess the higher the initial speed the quicker it drops off over distance

      Re: Believe in better

the reason I think sky choose 2MB upload is because of costs sky would have to pay BT over 100 pound for renting the 10MB upload package type that's maybe the reason.

don't trust the BT inifinty checker too much, it reports that my address can have 72.7/20 whereas my modem reports a max of 96/31

andrewjr, I have tried the BT checker several times today and still says 34Mb down and 6Mb up for me. Just finished live chat and BT said that the new speeds will not be updated on the checker until Monday. Not sure if this is a fob off. If only Sky had a checker. Less than 9 hours to go for SBUF to be available!!
