As far as I could tell, BT only manage (down) the peer to peer connections at busy times. The guaranteed minimum of 30 is still pretty good. We'll see...

I must confess that BT Infinity Option 2 was one of the two alternatives I was thinking of as part of my "escape plan" in the event that I was not able to order SBUF today.

      Re: Believe in better

Just been back on the blower, ragging the Fibre Team. I need more power Scotty!!

Was again told that no additional packages are available post launch.
However, Sky are well aware that BT have just doubled their speeds and it is under discussion at the highest levels. (By this, I think he was refering to the fact the office Tea Boy and the Cleaner we're going to sort it all out.)

Come on Sky, stop fretting about the BTO Wholesale prices and flick the switch, I want 80/20!! I'll even give you an extra fiver for it!

I thought the guaranteed speeds of 15 and 30 meg where sync speeds not actual speeds during peak times. I could be wrong

      Found this extract on TBB

FTTC broadband offers a downstream line speed of 40meg (40Mbps), but the actual maximum speed of the service will be slightly lower than this at around 39Mbps. Different upstream speeds are available at either 2Mbps or 10Mbps. Not everyone will receive the maximum speed as it depends on the length of your phone line to the cabinet which is providing your broadband service, but BT Openreach will guarantee that the minimum sync speed will be 15Mbps. Speeds are expected to rise to 80Mbps downstream and 15Mbps upstream in the Spring 2012. If you already have fibre broadband, why not try our broadband speed test to see how fast your connection is.

      Re: Believe in better

Yes 15mb is the min your line must be able to sync at otherwise FTTC will not be avail on your line and also the min guaranteed throughput during local congestion is 15mb for the 40 down profiles and 30mb for the 80 down profile

What is not clear so far is if that local congestion min throughput means at the equipment in the fiber cab and if it also applies to Sky's fiber or if it relates to local congestion at the exchange on the BT back haul and so does not apply to Sky's connections

Also BT say they can reduce your upload speed as they see fit not just in peak times in their T&C
