Yes I've seen 18 months quoted by a BT Moderator...

Also, the BT Wholesale Checker is now quoting the full fat 80Mb numbers. Reckons I'm good for 52Mb downstream where I am. I will take that with a handful of salt.

Yeah!!!! Bring on the Speed Wars!!!!!

Virgin Media: 120mb - unless you go over their stated limits, in which case you'll be throttled back. Please note, VM are allowed to spy on your computers, it is in their T&Cs. Should you upload a lot, then they'll cap you again.

BT Infinity: 'up to' 80mb down and 20mb up, but during peak times we'll only guarantee 30mb download speeds, no matter what you were doing. We also have a history of using Phorm and snooping around networks to 'see if you are using an old PowerLine adaptor'.

Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre: speed: unknown, but trials currently still on going but 40mb down and 2mb up for the public trials. However totally unlimited and no traffic management.

      Bring on Sky's announcement tomorrow.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

The thing that makes me laugh is that from tomorrow the BT FTTC customers will have a faster upload speed (20) than the FTTP customers (15)!

Again, don't get the whole thing about high upload speeds. If I was on FTTP - I wouldn't care if they had 50Mb uploads. I'd still have 300 (is it 100 or 300???) to my house!

This says I would get 52Mb/10.9Mb if I were to order FTTC Internet

Re: BT Double Fibre Speeds for Free

Has anyone read the recently updated BT T&C they not only restrict P2P in peak times but they also say they can restrict uploads too at anytime: BT Broadband Usage

"To protect the performance of the network and to ensure the best experience for all users of the service, at peak times we may manage the speed of non-time critical applications such as P2P.

P2P refers to certain applications that enable files and program sharing between groups of people logged on to a P2P network. Because they use uploads and downloads and are often left running 24/7, they consume significant bandwidth, even when being used by just a small number of customers.

Because a lot of P2P traffic is not time-critical - for example, downloading and uploading TV programmes or movies for later viewing - we treat P2P traffic differently from time-critical traffic (such as surfing, streaming or internet telephony) and apply speed restrictions to all P2P traffic.
We manage these restrictions daily based on the demands on the network, but downstream restrictions will typically be in place 4pm - midnight on weekdays and 9am - midnight on the weekend. Upstream restrictions may be in place at other times.
