      Just got the delivery

Well, I just got delivered the Sky fibre optic router! woohoo. with installation date on the 11 April.

Question: it still has an ADSL port at the back of that router. how is it meant to be fibre optic?

I wish I could set it up now

You connect it to the BT modem with an ethernet cable to one of the lan ports, i would assume the rj-11 port then becomes redundant.

Edited to add: Just to be clear, the fibre is only to the cabinet. its then over the original copper to your house into a BT modem.

Yes, they will install a new face plate on your master socket and give you a vdsl modem. I believe they will also move your master socket if needed.

You can currently use the new router, if you wish, since you have Sky Broadband Unlimited. Connect it up to use the ADSL port. You may find, as others have, that the router doesn't connect immediately. Leave it for at least a quarter of an hour before calling Sky to get the router enabled.

sirbadger has pointed out, once you have SBUF connected though, the ADSL port will become unused. You will need to connect the BTO Modem, once it has been installed, to Port 1 on the router. A couple of members have connected to port 4 and this has caused problems.

      Re: Just got the delivery

Yes, its a wireless router, firewall, switch etc. The BT modem is just a modem that talks vdsl and hands it over to the Sky router.

Not sure why Sky doesn't provide an all-in-one vdsl router. I'm sure someone with more knowledge about that will come along and answer

      Re: Just got the delivery

just a couple of queries to the answers on this thread--
if you have sky BB why would you have a BTO router?
If the fibre only goes to the cabinet surely the signal would be like hitting a brick wall when it gets to the original wiring in your property?
      Hope i make sense!!
