      Decisions..

I've been a long time Sky customer (mainly TV) and joined Sky Unlimited back in 2009. Now the demand for internet in my house is high. We use it for everything you can possibly think of. Right now, the 17/1 doesn't quite cut it (believe it or not). Our exchange was one of the most recent to be upgraded with fibre and I want to make the move. Now I'm aware that Sky Fibre is on the horizon.. but I'm also hearing it's 40/1? I do rely on good upload speeds. BT Infinity is an option, is anyone currently with them? How are they doing? I've spoken to Sky agents and being told conflicting views.

I'm in London, and have a fibre enabled exchange... how long might I have to wait for Sky Fibre? Or.. is BT Infinity an option? 40/10 does sound quite appealing, I'm 209 metres (straight line distance) from my exchange and have been able to always get high speeds.

Just looking for some direction, your personal opinion is most welcome. I want to hear your experience whether you're lucky enough to have Sky Fibre now, or you're with BT.

      Its 40/2

Nothing but rumours on faster downlaods / uploads for Sky, although not long to wait now.

Worse case scenario see what happens on 12th April, what Sky do finally offer, then decide then.

Is Sky Fibre rolling out? Or will it just be available to all fibre exchanges? Agent on the phone said they aren't starting until the 20th.

Also, do I need Sky Line rental as well?

The 20th may be correct, we can only go by what is on Sky's website, currently 12th

To get Fibre from Sky, you will need the relevant kit in the exchange, Sky Talk, and Sky Line Rental.

      Re: Decisions..

launch date is the 12th April. there MAYBE other packages out on this date. at the moment non sky employees are on the 40/2 profile and I believe some sky employees maybe trialing the 80/20 profile.

possible packages coming out could be as below but nothing has been confirmed by sky.

      40/2
      40/10
      80/20

It may be worth waiting for Sky to release their package(s) on the 12th and seeing what they offer. BT Inifinty is traffic shaped whereas SBUF is truly unlimited. You WILL need to take Sky talk if/when you get SBUF

Thank you for the information Andrew. I'm unable to access the Sky website right now, how much would Sky Fibre + Line rental be? I guess I'm faced with either paying less for BT but be subject to traffic shaping (even though over the phone they said it's truly unlimited), or paying more for Sky and bumping my monthly bill well into 100+ with the current price I'm paying for Sky+ HD.

Also, I should ask, how much traffic shaping is done? Is is strictly limited to P2P?

I feel like an idiot, you're totally right. Well I'm going to wait and see if at launch it's 40/10. I do rely on that upload.

No worries and your certainly not alone in requiring more upload, we shall see what sky offer.

      Re: Decisions..

Spoke to Sky and got put through to the Fibre team. I think I will end up sticking with Sky. It's a money saver in the long wrong, and it's truly unlimited as I expected. Only thing that concerns me is that there's currently no plan to give more upload, perhaps if there's a demand for it afterwards, they'll change that.
