Sky Fibre Installed - Low Sync! :(

This is a discussion on Sky Fibre Installed - Low Sync! :( within the Sky Broadband (Fibre) Help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; That might be acceptable for BT but it wouldn't be for me!!!! I'd expect at least 25mb...

Maybe so, but as a customer that was on an "up to 20 meg" connection until yesterday and receiving less than 2 meg, it could be tough titty as they say. T&C's will apply I'm afraid

This is correct and documented Here on the BTO website

Re: Sky Fibre Installed - Low Sync! :(

I've had it confirmed that the minimum connection speed that Sky will support if 15mb downstream.

Since the connection speeds have been increased, I am hoping that more of those who are on the very long lines will now be able to achieve at least this speed.

The alternative would to aim for an FTTP product. There is no confirmed news from Sky on this yet.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      Thanks Scubbie & Ipster.

Reinforces what i've already stated. 15meg guaranteeed, if that's the official line.
Whilst FTTC is a great advancement in the DSL field, nobody should automatically assume they are going to get 40+meg speeds, regardless of their previous ADSL2+ speeds.
It still all boils down to the quality of your line from the cabinet, and this is the foremost deciding variable in VDSL speeds, period.

If your Max Attainable Rate is 25meg, there's nothing you can do, apart from paying an arm and a leg to BTO to renew your line from the cab to your property.

IMO it's being slightly mis-sold to a certain degree. The real winners are folk who live miles from the exchange and currently receive sub 5meg sync's. They are the customers who will see the most benefit, pound for pound.

Apart from us die-hards who demand nothing but the best, of course.

I know I'm speaking from a slightly prejudiced position (and leaving aside the natural desire to have the fastest/best speed possible and it can never be fast enough view) but, based on what I've seen on here and elsewhere, my perception is that quite a few trial invitees already had what I would consider to be a decent speed, so it puzzles me why Sky doesn't seem to have sought out more people with lower download speeds (whose line can already get SBUF now) to join the trial. As you say, they're the people who will get the biggest boost. They would be magnificent examples to include in an advertising campaign for a market beating package at launch.

Re: Sky Fibre Installed - Low Sync! :(

pmsl - nice to see that things are better.

As for speedyrite's comment regarding connection speeds, I am sure that there are plenty more we haven't seen who subscribe to other forums who may have slower connection speeds. I would have said that the purpose of this trial was to essentially check that the kit is working and that any ordering processes work first and foremost in all eligible exchanges.

In this regard, based on the responses on this forum, it appears to have been a great success. Other than a couple of routers being delayed and one BTO Engineer not turning up, everyone has been connected on time.

Personally, My current connection, although not as low as some, is on the slower end of the scale:

Once connected to SBUF, I will hopefully get 34.8 down and 2 up, approx 5x increase on downstream!

My best ever is 2Mb/s so I'll be happy if I get 15.
