This is where the locked down modems and routers becomes an issue. Why should you have to hack the modem to see the stats? but without access to it you cant see whats going on. Surley they either know what the issue is, need to send a new router or arrange and engineer.

I know this may sound silly but are you able to run a BT speedtest with the line being managed by BT? And do they use any sort of IP Profiles?

Next time you speak to the sky fibre team, ask them if there is any sort of IP Profile on your connection and if so what it is? Having had a poke around other fourms other FTTC customers have seen their profile (not sync) change and has required BTO to amend it. I am not sure if this is the same for a sky product but could be a possible explination.

Locked down because ordinary joe public doesn't need to know his max attainable rate and his sync rate.

Just because he has fibre though - doesn't automatically mean your going to get 40, does it?

Just looking at other forums they all seem to mention a FTTC IP Profiles and 38717 is the highest for a 40 connection and is set by BTO so I am not sure if this is the same for sky as they use their own equipment in the exchange or not. Some saw their profiles drop from in their 30s to 21... just seems odd as thats about the speeds we have reported here.

Re: Sky Fibre Installed - Low Sync! :(

Will phone Sky tonight to see if they can sort this, my guess is hopefully the cab, or at worse the line from the cab!

What is the best number to call Sky on to get through to the Fibre team and someone who can help with this?

      Thanks Guys!

      Hi Paul,

Think I have got a number on a letter indoors or written down what they told me on the phone, just wondered if that was the best number or if anyone had found a better one.

      If not, will try that!

Re: Sky Fibre Installed - Low Sync! :(

One thing to bear in mind, each line has it's own Maximum Attainable Rate, based on the quality of the twisted pair that runs from the Fibre Cabinet to your property.

      Things that can knock down the max theoretical speeds are;

Poor copper, or even aluminium line from cab to property.
External interference on the above mentioned line.
Distance from your property to the cabinet.

Any one of these could cause your Max Attainable Rate to drop to sub 30meg sync's.

A line capable of 11meg on ADSL, doesn't neccessarily mean you'll get the full 40meg on VDSL2.
Every line is unique, some customers are lucky to have really clean lines capable of 100+meg, some not so fortunate 40 or less.

AFAIK, it's still being sold as an 'upto' 40meg product, but what I don't know, is what the minimum guaranteed speed is.
Just an example, if it's 15meg, you could jump up and down and insisit it get's sorted. If it's more, you might have difficulty.

One things is almost certain, the 40meg speed is not guaranteed for every customer.

The Openreach engineer told me yesterday as he was installing that an "acceptable" connection is between 15 and 40meg, on an "up to 40meg" connection
